When life gets tough we may think God isn't there. We fail to see His hands surrounding us because we are lost in the confusion of what is happening around us. Sometimes God shouts above all the noise so that our pain will subside with the sound of His voice. Sometimes He simply speaks through someone close to us quietly through a smile, hug, a shoulder to cry on, or a simple word of encouragement. Then there are those times we have to stop talking, stop questioning, stop worrying, close our eyes, pray, and listen. Not to what we want to hear, not to what we want to happen, but to what God knows we need to hear and what needs to happen. There are no shortcuts as we move throughout the obstacles in life. Yet why would we want that? Why get to that final destination so quickly? No, instead we must cherish the opportunities, give thanks to God for His constant presence, and be blessed by the beauty in taking the long way around.
