Daily BITUB- “Gpa”

I talked to my Gpa this weekend. He was telling me about how things were going there. Told me about going to the store early and there was already a line and he was having none of it. Made me laugh and smile. He is 94 and listening to him tell me to take care of myself, that if I needed anything to call him, that he can't wait to see us and have one big party to celebrate everything reminded me of why we must be good to one another. Just care about each other. Why we must be kind, aware, and count our blessings. Why we must help everyone we can when we can. Why when we have more we give to those who don't. He, as he always has, just wants us all to be ok. He, like many people out there, remind us why we must be patient, be vigilant, be content. He needs things I'm sure, but it will always be others first. I miss him. I miss my family. I miss our friends, but we are comforted by God and His Grace. I know this is our time to prove we can and will weather the storm, and like Gpa be the light in the dark and be there when someone needs us. A great reminder that we get to show that we really do understand that "in everything, (we) do to others what (we) would have them do to (us)."- Matthew 7:12

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find a moment to give, to appreciate, to count your blessings... There are many.

Have a blessed and healthy day.

Daily BITUB- “Do Your Part”

We have a problem. We aren't playing a game. This is not a drill. People are getting sick around us. Maybe we don't know them, but someone does. It's one of those situations where you think it's not going to happen to you. You think it won't be anyone you know, until it is. Then what? We are in a position to have an impact, an influence, a moment where we can change the course of the future. We get to determine how this next season unfolds, how the next chapter is written, how our kids, their kids will look back and say we did our part. I know people keep saying this is easy because all we have to do is sit on the couch and watch Netflix. Let's put it on the table. Let's be honest. It's not easy. We all miss interactions. We miss seeing our people. We miss going out, we miss participating, we miss touch. We miss doing. When this is done I believe our priorities will be different. I believe how we spend our time will be different. I think our perception of what living is will be different. Yet it's ok to miss things. It's ok to feel. It's ok not to be perfect at home schooling. It's ok not to repaint your whole house. It's ok to cry. It's ok to be scared. It's ok to hurt... and it's ok to be happy too. It's ok to enjoy the time away from the schedule. It's ok to sleep in. It's ok to do nothing. All of it. All of it is ok. What isn't ok? Not paying attention to the warnings. Not staying home when you can because you are suppose to. Not adhering to the guidelines. Not being aware that you can be where one strain of this spread stops. We matter. This is not a game. This is not a drill. Time to be a part of the solution.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize you can  do your part and that your part is just as important as everyone's.

Have a blessed and healthy week.

Daily BITUB- “Being Ourselves”

Over the past few days I've received many emails with questions. Some are anxiety filled, some are fear filled, and others are simply questions about the unknown. One that struck me was "How many days will pass before we get to be ourselves again?" It resonated with me because I wasn't aware that we couldn't be ourselves. Actually I was hoping that when all this is done we come out better than ever, and during this time we reflect on things we get to be better at. Maybe, just maybe, this isn't so much a wakeup call, but a call in general. A call to just notice things. A call to be more aware and thankful. A call to remember, to find, to realize our actual calling. Maybe we realize we don't have to keep up with our neighbors. Maybe we understand that our children don't have to be in every activity out there. Maybe we see them growing by being kids and doing those things they really love. Maybe we will see that in ourselves. Maybe you need inspiration. Look around. I have seen more people running, walking, playing outside. Now, it is happening in their driveway or in their yards, but it is happening. I saw someone painting on their fence with their kids. I saw someone working in their garden. When I say someone I actually mean people that are normally running 100 miles an hour and they don't have time to do those things usually, or so they thought. See that is just it. We put so much emphasis on time and often say we don't have enough of it.That is on us isn't it? That is all by choice. We might just realize what we want our time to be filled with when this is done. We are going to come out of this and have some big things to decide. Do we go back to being too busy making a living we forget to live? Do we go back to packing our kids schedules with things we want that we don't let them be kids and play? Do we pack our evenings with social event after social event that we don't get home in time to tuck in our kids, to read to them, to pray with them, to eat with them? When will be ourselves again? I'm finding that we are becoming more of who we really are, now more than ever.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find comfort in the pause and you let yourself appreciate the opportunity to do and become what God needs you to be right now.

Have a blessed and healthy day.

Daily BITUB- “Choices”

What choice do we have? I keep hearing that said over and over. We have a lot of choices right now. Do as we are told to bend the curve. Call people we miss. Sit and catch up on reading and writing. Organize. Spend time with those you are blessed to be quarantined with. Those of us still working... Work with a grateful heart as some don't have jobs. Choose not to take for granted all the people who are doing all they can to try and hold you, us, up.  Be appreciative of those out there because we need them to be including medical, police, military, fire fighters. Be thankful for teachers finding new ways to enrich our kids, and for schools doing their best to still provide food and resources. Attend an online church service. Maybe you've wanted to go, but hesitated. Now is your chance. Have some quiet time to reflect on what is essential and what you REALLY miss,  so, when this is done you no longer take it for granted. Think about where we are and think about what we get to do when this is done. Choose good. Choose light. Choose to be a positive influence and to put others first. Pay close attention to all the good that may be a blip on the radar amidst all the negative that tends to be so much more exciting to report. Look around at people doing more and giving more. Look at your leaders, your mentors, your rocks. Watch them and don't forget there are those watching you for inspiration and motivation. Reconnect with God. Reconnect with your blessings. Reconnect with yourself. Reconnect with what really matters and what life and living everyday to the fullest means to you now more than ever.

What choice do we have? I'd say we have plenty.

What choices are you going to be making today?

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is you allow yourself to see what is really before you. That you let God in so you can see all those things, those people, those moments you may have been so busy before that you missed.

Have a blessed and healthy day and choose happy.

Daily BITUB- “Prayer to St. Joseph the Worker”

Many years ago one of my mentors gave me this prayer to say. It has become a part of my daily routine to start my day and helps ground me in what I need to do. Now with even longer days, longer hours, with people doing jobs maybe they didn't think they would, with people stepping up, stepping out and being asked to deliver, to perform, to give, to sacrifice, to serve... I thought I would share it with all of you.

Stay healthy, stay smart, stay kind, stay aware and remember we are in it together and we have God as our guide every step of the way.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and have a blessed and healthy week.

Prayer to St. Joseph the Worker

Glorious Saint Joseph,
pattern of all who are devoted to toil, obtain for me the grace to toil in the spirit of penance, in order thereby to atone for my many sins; to toil conscientiously, putting devotion to duty before my own inclinations; to labor with thankfulness and joy, deeming it an honor to employ and to develop, by my labor, the gifts that I have received from Almighty God; to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties; to work above all with a pure intention and with detachment from self, having always before my eyes the hour of death and the accounting which I must then render of time ill-spent, of talents unemployed, of good undone, and of my empty pride in success, which is so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all through Mary, all in imitation of thee, O Patriarch Joseph! This shall be my motto in life and in death.

Amen.

Daily BITUB- “Quarantined or Blessed”

Written last night...

Am I really quarantined or am I blessed?

I got to walk outside and even got a little sunshine in between the nice rain that I also stood in for a minute. I got to sit, breathe, and read in a small break in my day and learn more about what it means to be a servant leader. I got to work on plans to ensure that people are able to continue to work and live. I made my favorite coffee and had several online meetings to discuss plans for what could be a longer "inconvenience". I took a few minutes to pray for those who couldn't go out or those who may not have any outlets that I have to occupy their anxiety. I prayed for those without jobs now wondering what is to come. I prayed and gave thanks for the doctors, nurses, first responders and military that are out doing what we can't. I prayed for the elderly and the sick. I prayed for a clear head and patience. I prayed for the seniors that don't get the time that we had in school. I prayed for those missing vacations, the concerts that are being cancelled, the plans that are being changed, schedules that are being upended. I prayed people put what's really important into perspective. I found some solace and light that I can see families being families on line. Some reconnecting with what really matters. I got to see a post from someone talking about watching old movies and introducing their kids to ET, Happy Days, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and the Back to the Future series. I reminisced. I saw people doing Zumba with each other via video. I saw teachers reaching out to their students with activities to complete and even had video sessions to laugh and see their faces. I saw people working from home and was happy to know they were able to. I saw a lot of positive, a lot of good, a lot of faith, a lot of hope, a lot of trust, a lot of kindness and an infinite amount of God's Grace at work. As I sit here on my computer with the office growing quieter ready to go home and see my family I'll make a round around here to thank those still here working. It was a good day and I'm grateful. So, I ask myself again...

Am I really quarantined or am I blessed?

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you are able to find the light in this situation, realize God is still in control and we simply need to do our part to help Him do His work.

Have a blessed and health day.

Daily BITUB- “Now is the time.”

Now is the time to do your part.

Now is the time to contribute a verse to this chapter, this season, this time of need. Specifically today I am urging you to not forget those who are sitting at home by themselves. Those who can't drive, who rely on people to visit, take them around, social interaction… Again, I urge you to reach out to them. Give them a call, shoot them a text, do a video call with them. Depression, fear of being alone, isolation is not taking a break because of this virus. So, our concern for other's well being shouldn't either. Be more intentional than you ever have in communicating and be aware of things you may not have been before. People need people. People need to know they are cared for, loved, and thought of. Now more than ever we must be good to each other. We must be conscious of the needs of people as people. We need to show affection and comfort and understanding. I ask you to be patient with each other. To realize that someone may need that bread, water, toilet paper more than you, especially if you have some at home. That someone's circumstance may have already been stressed and this has only added more. This will test many of us. This will be a struggle for many more. This will push some of us to limits. This will also help many realize they are capable of handling more than they ever thought they could. This will show a deeper concern beyond ourselves than we ever thought we would have. This, I truly believe, will be one of humanities finest hours. Make no mistake this is our time to give back to a world that has given so much to us. To pray for each other. To remind each other of God's love and Grace. To realize and reciprocate the blessings we may have taken for granted until now. Now, when every single thing we have we will get to appreciate even more.

Now is the time to do our part.
Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is health, comfort, peace, understanding and a belief that through the Grace of God we will carry on and carry through.
Have a blessed and healthy day.

Daily BITUB- “Not About You”

It's not just about you. Sometimes you have to sacrifice something you want for the greater good of others. I keep hearing people say I'm not worried about getting infected, but you should be. It's not just about you. What if you infect my 94 year old Grandpa? Someone else's? What if you infect one person that infects an entire community and prevents people from working and their livelihood is jeopardized? It's not just about you. We are being inconvenienced sure, but it's just that... An inconvenience. A temporary disruption in our busy, running around, every day life. Here is your chance to stop and smell the roses. Here is your time to be with family. Here is your time to reflect, to appreciate, to step up and do things others can't. It's not just about you. My family will be home again this week. I will get up and head to work with one goal in mind. Take care of our people, our clients, our community. Make sure we do all we can to protect them and have their best interests in mind. Why? Because it's not just about me. It's times like this we get to put into practice all those prayers, all that talk of servant leadership and servant hearts. It's times like this we get to truly lean on faith and show just how much we believe it when we say God is in control. It's times like this when we realize we must give it to God because in His eyes it is, and always will be, all about us.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize even in our darkest moments there are blessings.

Have a blessed week and stay smart, kind, giving, and healthy.

Daily BITUB- “The Plan”

God has this plan. He has always had one. Thing is we have to have enough courage, faith, and trust in Him to go after it. Easier said then done isn't it? I mean you may be leaving your comfort zone. You may be walking away from something good, but God keeps calling you to do more. It's a leap no doubt and people may not get it at first. Think about the apostles. You think they didn't have doubts? You think people didn't get them? We know that to be true. Yet God didn't give up on them because, again, He had a plan for them. God's plan isn't a, "Sorry, you missed your window" situation. It is a constant and it is up to us to hear and then do. That's the key. We often hear, but not everyone will listen and even less will do. It's scary sometimes, but if your heart is telling you and God is leading you then maybe you realize there is, and always has been, a plan for you too. It may take a moment to realize. It make take longer to appreciate it. It may even challenge you beyond what you thought were your limitations, only to find out you had way more to give. There is really only one way to find out. There really, when you think about, is only one way period. "(He)is the Way, the Truth, and the Life." (John 14:6)

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find a comfort and a peace in whatever you are facing. You are able to find it because faith is telling you God has a plan just for you.

Have a blessed day.

Daily BITUB- “In This Corner”

You ever felt backed into a corner? You have choices when that happens. You can cower there because you are afraid if you don't things could get worse. You can give in even though you know things aren't right... Or you can fight your way out. That choice is the hardest. You have to know why you are fighting. You have to understand what it means and why it means that. You have to know that it won't be easy, and there will be times you wonder if it was worth it. You may lose people you thought were with you. You may realize the truth behind what things really mean. You may find that what people say is not what they do when it comes time to show it. You might get let down, pushed down, beat down, but if you truly believe in what you are fighting for then you have to fight. You'll come to realize exactly who was in that corner with you, and you can rest on the fact that what you value is clear and nonnegotiable. There is no settling. There is no grey between what is right and wrong. You may begin to understand you are doing what others can't and you are also fighting for those who can't fight for themselves. When it comes down to it you may be standing there with only the few willing to stand with you, and that's ok. For it is not who we have to live with, but it is those people who inspire, help us grow, and we love that we live and fight for.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize you have the strength, the courage, the ability to stand tall and face whatever you must in order to live the way you know you should and the way God knows you could.

Have a blessed day.

Daily BITUB- “Prayers for God”

Don't decide not to pray for something because you feel you aren't worth it. You can feel unworthy, but it's not about where you are, who you are, what you've done. It's not about you at all. It's giving yourself up to God. It's realizing that God is greater than your sin. He has already given you His Grace. He already knows what you've done and what you have yet to do. Do you believe that God gave His only Son for us? Do you think that was for nothing? No, it was because He loves us. It's because His unconditional and relentless pursuit of us is non stop. If you are sitting thinking that God won't answer your prayer I'm telling you from experience you are wrong. I've asked for so many things and God has yet to say no. It has taken me years to understand some of those answers and even longer to realize He was always answering them. It's not about us. It's about faith. It's about belief. It's about knowing that He will always light the path, but we sometimes have to trust that the small light in the distance is still His light. Everything we are, we do, we need, we pray for matters. It matters simply because to God we are all that does.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize your prayer is being heard. That no matter the ask God is listening and He will answer in His time and in His way.

Have a blessed week everyone.

Daily BITUB- “No Promises”

Don't promise us. Don't promise yourself. Show us! Don't spend time telling everyone what you could, would or should do. Instead get after it. Use that energy on a purpose. Things progress when we progress them. Life and the journey of it is a magnificent path of ups and downs that give us the knowledge and strength around every turn to try harder, to give more, to take less and to simply be better than we were yesterday. What choice do we have? Honestly, what choices don't we have? How many opportunities do we get that we squander? We think maybe tomorrow. We think maybe the next one is better. You can choose to overcome limitations, face the challenges, tackle adversity, dream bigger, live, or you don't. I've been a witness to people taking unbelievable chances to reach destinations they once thought impossible. I've watched people refuse to settle for anything less than all they believe in. Why? Because they trust in God's plan, their own faith and their ability to take anything and everything presented, good and bad, and make a life out of it. Not waiting, not blaming, not giving up or giving in. Appreciate those blessings, the opportunity to choose, the ability to live, the beauty in being. Being everything you can. Doing everything you need to do. No more promises of what can be. Let's just get after it.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find the strength to get after it. You find the courage to chase your dreams, to create and to be a part of life and living it.

Have a blessed weekend.

Daily BITUB- “Dealing with Others”

Someone asked me yesterday what the silver bullet is in dealing with others... The negative, the angry, the manipulative, the selfish others. I laughed and said first of all no bullets! Seriously though if I knew that I would probably be a best selling author at this point. Still, what I have learned is that a majority of how we deal with others is truly based on our own reactions to things. Every situation can mean something different to different people. We have no clue their journey to this point as they don't know ours. Even our closest friends, family, our spouse may not know all the things that you have faced, until you are either face to face with it again or it finds its way to the surface. So, I try to take that into account. Let's face it though we all have some people who live to push our buttons. We have those annoying individuals who are constantly looking to start a fight, to be in a fight or worse to throw out an emotional grenade in the middle of the room and then run out. It is easy to allow those things to derail us. Even easier to shift all our attention and energy to those negative beacons that seem to draw us in like a siren to the shore. As hard as it is we must realize that the only shadows others cast are the ones that we allow to put a damper on our light. We control it. We control the moment, the situation, our attitude, our next move. So how do I deal with others? I simply deal with me, my emotions, my thoughts first, and that has made all the difference. That allows me to get on with it, to keep my energy where it needs be, and my focus where I want to be.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself to realize how much control you have over your moments. That you pray for guidance and strength as needed and in those situations where someone is pulling you down you simply pray for them.

Have a blessed day.

Daily BITUB- “Busily Blessed”

You know the hustle of life can get to you if you let it.  I found myself running from one place to another yesterday, and had a lot of pressing things at work to get done. Our daughter had a dance recital, our son a baseball game and then I had a client dinner to attend. I was thinking throughout the day how I was going to do it all and was blessed to have help along the way with some schedule changes that were much needed to make it happen.  I remember not too long ago someone telling me to cherish these moments. To enjoy the games, the recitals, the running around, because before you know it that ends. Not to mention it is a blessing to be busy at work because that means we have work. Thing is missing something that is important to us means it is already gone. There is no moment to cherish as we let it slip by. You can't get it back. I wonder how often people hear that, but don't really listen. I mean in the moment it is hard to listen when you are running ragged on some days, but listen we must. For Lent we are intentionally fasting from not complaining. So, that is step one. Not complaining about the busy days and really seeing them for what they are. That is hard to do, but honestly it really isn't. We can get wrapped up in the things we say we have to do, or we can be blessed by the beauty in understanding it is all something we get to do. Yes, we are able, capable, and have another day from God to be busy. So, yesterday I took a deep breath, gathered up my blessings, thanked God for my wife whose schedule of pick-ups, drops offs, meetings, is way more packed then mine. Then I decided that I would just be in each of those moments present with a grateful heart, a full heart, my attention on that moment, a nod to God to let Him know I am truly thankful and will continue to be for as long as I get to be busily blessed doing the things that I get to do.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you look at your days as opportunities. Opportunities to share, to experience, to be a part of life, to be in the lives of others and to enjoy the many moments you get to be busily blessed.

Have a blessed day all.

Daily BITUB- “You wanted to tell me something.”

I could tell You wanted to tell me something, but I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention.

I was so happy with life that I didn't bother to give You any thanks. Then things changed. Things started to unravel. Things started to fall apart. I knew You wanted to show me the way, but I was too busy complaining about where I was to notice. I couldn't hear You over my frustration. I couldn't see You because I was too blinded by the negativity around me… The negativity I was putting out. What did You want from me? What were You trying to do to me? I failed to see the blessings You kept putting in my path. I stopped reading Your word. I didn't care what You thought of me. I waited so long that I felt embarrassed to come to You after all that time. Yet, I kept asking You to answer my prayers and time and time again I refused to accept the way You were answering them. I was ungrateful.

I could tell You wanted to tell me something, but I was so wrapped up in what wasn't going right I missed all the things that were.

I missed the small glimpses of light You provided me because my eyes wouldn't stop focusing on the dark. I refused to let You in because I didn't feel You wanted to be there anymore. I felt alone, lost, scared, hurt. I stopped going to church, stopped having faith, stopped giving thanks. I didn't understand why You would still come get me. I didn't want to accept that You were still there.

I could tell You wanted to tell me something, but I was so tired I didn't pay attention.

Yet, you kept on. You kept calling out. You kept showing me signs. You kept giving me Your Grace. I thought you were gone, but You were always there. You didn't care that I wasn't. You didn't care that I didn't listen. You didn't want me to go back and make up for what I missed. You only cared about now. You handed me back my faith. You gave me my strength. You loved me unconditionally even though I didn't deserve it.

I could tell You wanted to tell me something, and this time I decided to just listen to You.

I heard You. I really heard you. You wanted me to be better, to lay down my burdens, to help me carry this cross. After all this time, you wanted me to see my blessings. To just see You.

Then I realized it...  All You ever wanted was me.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow God in. He isn't going anywhere and it's never too late. He is the truth, the way and the light.

Have a blessed day!

Daily BITUB- “God Watches Over Us”

The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. (Psalm 32:8)

Ahhh... but how do we know we are on the right path? Especially when we were certain we were on it before only to have it upended. We've all had those experiences. We are in that perfect relationship until it isn't. We have the best job until we don't. We are healthy until we aren't. Yes it's hard to know anything when we feel like we have been thrown around, beat up, let down, put down. We want God to just tell us. Just lay it out, make it glow, do something! It doesn't work that way though. What I've learned, but often still forget, is what faith assures us. That every path is the path we are supposed to be on. Every road leads somewhere. There are lessons to be learned, experiences to be had, challenges to be overcome. As hard as some crosses are to bear they are ours and God put them on that path for a reason. It may take years to recover, may take longer to understand it, but God will present those answers on His time not ours. We just have to keep walking. Have to believe. Have to know that through it all He is watching over us.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that whatever path you are on you be on it. You be on it with the comfort and the belief that God is on it with you.
