BITUB May 2020- DC

I am thankful to God each and every day for the opportunity to share my thoughts and my blessings.
During this time, more than ever, I find myself making the choice to be grateful and giving credit to God for continuing to push me to find my calling and to others for helping me find my why.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and have a blessed and healthy weekend all.

Yours in service,

Daily BITUB- “Transformational”

Let's face it there are simply times in life when things are hard. Everyone has a thought and an opinion about something. Some things come easy for people while for others it's hard. There are many debates happening as we speak about what it means to live and let live. There is hurt, confusion, sadness and there is also joy, gratefulness, focus. There are so many people at different ends of the emotional spectrum it's hard to stay focused on goals. We can't ignore the world around us and we shouldn't. There are things daily we are responsible for and things we must address in order to handle our daily obligations and expectations. Those things should be a direct reflection of who we are and the long term person we want to be. For me, my personal grind is to serve others. I want to help guide as I have been guided. My daily actions must be in line with that and I must be honest with myself daily about whether or not they are. My opinions are mine, but my beliefs are non-negotionable. I'm not sure what each day will bring, but by equipping myself with faith, truth, and belief I'm ready to deal with whatever God needs me to handle. I believe in that. 1 Corinthians 12:7 says "Each person is given something to do that shows who God is. Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits."  As I approach another birthday I can honestly say this year has been transformational for me. I've experienced people, both good and bad, I've faced myself and parts of me I didn't like, I've grown closer to God, I've realized a calling and learned a deeper appreciation for family and faith. I've realigned priorities and feel that I want everyone to be a part of this journey. I pray I can be a better person, a better leader, father, husband, friend so that maybe there will be something in me that shows a little of who God is.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you live the life you want to live in faith, with your values at the forefront, and that you allow yourself opportunity to show, through you, who God is.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Stop Wishing-Get After It”

We have to stop wishing we can maneuver our way through life, wanting for things to be better, to happen, to be and get after making our way. Isn't that a better plan? Controlling and influencing life rather than letting things around us do it? If we plant the seed, nurture it, mind it then we know those seeds have the potential to grow. Too much time is spent hoping for something and not enough energy spent on creating, influencing, cultivating. We must create consistency for ourselves by holding ourselves accountable to a level of expectation. Expect to do it and demand that you will. Set the goal. Make the plan. Commit to it. Then get after it. Be confident you can, and as the consistency of doing vs waiting takes hold you'll find yourself busily blessed. Blessed in pursuit of your goals. Blessed in making your moments. Blessed in giving yourself a real chance to take those dreams and make them your reality. Blessed that you don't have to sit down one day and wish you had, because you'll be surrounded by the things you know you did.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself the opportunities to influence the outcome of your moments and you find yourself blessed that you did and you could.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “”Relationships”

As the week begins, I can't help but find myself giving thanks to God for allowing me another day, and I am grateful. Grateful for many things, but mostly for the relationships in my life today. Over the years I have pushed away many people. Why? Fear of hurt, loss, and lack of trust. As I have grown older though, I've developed a realization that I have a sense of need. I need certain people around me because they are essential to who I am. They are accountability partners. They are truth sayers. They are confidants. They are shoulders to cry on. They are people we can tell our secrets to. They are the ones we trust and run to often. They don't judge, but they validate. They give us tough and honest love. They, in turn, only ask we do the same. I thank God for allowing those relationships in my life and have tried to be intentional in who I allow myself to have those relationships with. Our physical, mental and spiritual selves often determine that for us, and over the years we figure out why that's important. Real, true and open connections matter. It's not easy to find those people and we may have been burned along the way in pursuit of them, but I've found that God has a plan for us and those people are along the path He lays out for a reason. Whether or not we walk it is on us though, and we get to learn from all types of interactions and relationships, both good and bad. I'm grateful today for those lessons I've learned the hard way and for my blessings... My wife who is unconditionally loved, loving and a guiding light, my family who is faithfully there, and my dearest friends who want nothing but the comfort of knowing we share moments and memories of past, present and future to come. So, as the week begins in my morning reflections... I can't help but find myself grateful.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find your blessings along the path God has intended for you. That you nurture and give thanks for the special relationships in your life, and that you are intentional in saying you are.

Have a blessed and healthy week everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Little Things and Big Blessings”

It's funny how the little things can frustrate us, the smallest insecurities can keep us from moving outside our comfort zone, and even the thought of doubt can derail our progression. Yet, the smallest blessings we overlook... The little things that are ever-present. A chance to hang out with friends, a cross-off on our to do list, a "thank you" from our children, a phone call to our parents, an "I love you" from our spouse, a quiet moment to ourselves, a moment where we simply get to pray and talk with God. We let ourselves miss those things sometimes. Those day to day moments that, if we allow, keep us moving toward our goals. They remind us of where we are and how far we've come. They comfort us when we need it most. So, while we often focus on the negative, remind yourself just how much positive is ever-present each and every day. Be intentional in what you allow in to influence you. You control it. When you start to do that you'll begin to realize there are a lot of "little things" that are actually part of the biggest blessings in life.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer today is that you see just how many blessings are there when you let them be. Be your moments, let life inspire you, and don't be afraid to simply allow yourself to be your blessings.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Investing in Chances”

I hear people talk often about investing in themselves. They say all the right things, and even on the surface appear satisfied. Yet that satisfaction doesn't translate into fulfillment. There is no joy in what they have done because it wasn't ever anything they actually wanted to do. They didn't have the courage to follow their heart. Over the years I've met people who are happy. They are filled with love and joy because they love life and how they are living it. They aren't concerned with status, with wealth, fame, power. They are powerful in their way as they have complete control over their way of thinking. The investments they make are intentional. So, are ours? From the books we read, the social media we allow to influence us, what we eat to be healthy, the time we spend with God - they are all investments we decide we will or won't make in ourselves. I used to tell people I don't have time for that. Until I realized "that" wasn't at all what I really wanted. Remove the unwanted investments that create regret, animosity, false foundations and start putting your energy into the you that you want to be. Give yourself a chance by creating one. Chances are you will start to have time for all the things that make you simply want to find a way to invest more of you into "that".

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself to step back and reflect on all the wonder of life and your ability to capture those things that matter most.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “GPa’s Servant Heart”

"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want." (Psalm 23:1)

It's been an emotional few days. Highs, lows, tears of sadness, tears of joy and celebration of life. When I think back on my GPa I think about moments he must have had with everyone he came in contact with. I've heard stories that made me cry and stories that made me laugh. To me, my GPa lived a full life that was all about others. He took what he had in him in his cooking, his building skills, his hospitality and gave it out freely, wanting nothing in return. The joy it brought to others mattered, though you could never compliment him because he didn't want that. A friend of mine said, "What a legacy he left." It is a legacy. One of family, faith, love, and a servant heart. A servant heart that continues to fill mine every time I think of him, which I won't ever stop doing. Your life was a legacy GPa. If we all led with a servant heart and put others first, I'm certain life as we know it would be very different. It's a legacy, and I am blessed to do my part to live my best life in hopes that I may honor it with you as a goal and a guiding light. We will miss you, and we will continue to love and live exactly as you would have expected us to.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you remember just how precious life is. That you allow yourself time to soak up the moments and you never take for granted an opportunity to give, to love, and to be everything you can be.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Gpa”

"The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)

94 years...

It seems surreal. Going to Taylor I just expect to come see you. To laugh, to eat, to visit with you and fam. I just loved being around you. Loved playing poker, drinking, dominoes. I felt safe. Like there was nothing else happening in the world. That there time didn't matter. We just got to be us. We got to be your grandkids. You were my Gpa... One of my best friends. Some of my happiest memories.

This time though, it will be a different visit. It will hurt. It will feel empty. We will miss you. We will mourn you. We will cry for you. We will pray for you. We will also celebrate you and your life. That's what you would want. I know you are still going to watch over us as you always have. I know we will see you again so it's not goodbye, but rather see you when I see you. There are no words to describe who you were to so many. So, I'll just say... Save us a seat Gpa. We will laugh, drink, play again. Today, and for many days to come, I'm just going to take a deep breath, and I will give thanks to God for everything He let us have with you. I know He came down and took you by the hand and put it in Grandma's, and now while we may mourn, we will smile and feel joy knowing you are home.

Love you Gpa.

Daily BITUB- “I’m Afraid”

Sometimes I'm afraid. I'm afraid I'm not enough. I'm afraid I don't say things I should or how I should. I'm afraid I'll fail my kids. I'm afraid I'll let my wife down. I'm afraid I won't help others the way I'm supposed to. I'm afraid I don't know enough, sleep enough, eat healthy enough. I'm afraid I miss opportunities to do God's work because I'm selfishly focused on myself. I'm afraid that I didn't spend enough time with someone I've lost. I'm afraid I didn't leave a situation better than when I got there. I'm afraid I'm a negative influence sometimes. I'm afraid I let my temper lead me at times. I'm afraid my emotions sometimes get the best of me. I'm afraid I'll let my parents down. I'm afraid I don't volunteer enough. I'm afraid I didn't notice someone was depressed. I'm afraid I didn't say anything when I did. I'm afraid that I won't reach my goals. I'm afraid I don't set them lofty enough. I'm afraid I'm too busy making a living sometimes I forget to live. I'm afraid that I don't talk to God enough. I'm afraid I ask for too much from God and from others. I'm afraid that I've wasted too many days. Sometimes I'm afraid.

Yet, despite that fear, I'm here. I'm here with a heart that wants to not fear. I'm here praying that God will continue to lift me up, even when I feel I'm not worthy of His Grace. I hope. I pray. I remember God... "When I am afraid, I will trust in you." (Psalm 56:3) Then I will do my best to overcome those fears and live the life You intended for me.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you don't allow fear to keep you from living, doing, becoming the person God intends you to be. That, with God as your guide, you follow the path and you give your fears, your anxiety, your worry to Him today and every day.

Have a blessed and healthy week everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Simple Success”

We have a sign in our house that says "Live, Laugh, Love". We've had it since I can remember and it's made its way with us across 5 states and 8 moves. It's a simple message, but a good reminder of how we are able to impact so much with so little. We can be huge influences to our kids, our family, our friends, co-workers, even strangers. We can bring joy to those around us and realize how the negative that might sometimes surround us is nothing compared to the positive that can resonate beyond us. Now more than ever we are crossing paths with people we may not even know. We cross paths on social media, via post, a comment, a message that strikes us, and we get to decide what we will say and more importantly how we will say it. We may never meet that person in real life, but we might just spark something in them to do good, to be positive, to share kindness if we do the same. Then there are moments we pass someone in their mask, us in ours, and we can still see the smile, we can still give a nod, a wave... We can acknowledge life is different, but love, appreciation, understanding, comfort isn't. We can be that one moment that may remind them, and they us, that we are here in it together and that we all have the power to make life, living it, this place, this time better. As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "To know that one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." May you today, and every day, find your moments to be successful.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you remember that we all have influence and opportunities to make our moments matter... May we simply know we can leave a moment better than we found it.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone,

Daily BITUB- “Trust and Faith”

You have the faith. You have belief in God and His path for you. It's not enough. It's not enough to say it as we will be called upon to live it. Ask yourself: do you have the fortitude, the courage, and the strength to carry it through? We all have aspirations, goals, and a level we want to reach, but in all honesty not everyone will do what it takes. There is always an easier path. There is always an excuse. There is always a way to let yourself off the hook of doing what you said you'd do. We see roadblocks. We see dead ends. We see odds stacked against us. What we don't see, or maybe even refuse to see, is that there is also always a way. There is that harder path and it's there for a reason. It's there to prepare us, to teach us, to help us grow and be better. It's there so we can experience and maybe share that with others. It's there to build bridges and create foundations for others who may need it, and also for us to build upon it. There will be many moments when we will see no way and it will be our faith and our trust that God and His Grace will carry us through. It will be us truly believing in that and our blessed opportunity to show just how much we do.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you let your faith be your guide and God be your companion along the journey today and every day.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Fight for what matters.”

It's really easy to just fight against everything. So much we lose sight of what matters. We can pick apart one another, a situation, a plan. We are really good at finding every instance of a possible problem. Even the best problem solvers run into moments where nothing goes right so it's difficult to imagine that it ever will. It's not easy to change that mindset, but it's not impossible. We sometimes just need to step back and look at the moment differently. We have to see the blessings in order for there to be blessings. We can change our thought process to more productive and lucent, and we may even influence others to see the light in the tunnel on our way to the end of it. We can notice the good. We can challenge ourselves to find a way. We can offer words of encouragement, kindness, thoughtfulness. We can fill a situation with positive, avoid being the naysayer and focus on being the one that says we can, we have, and we will again. It may not always happen, but in those moments we can create something for us all to look back on and draw from to help us in times we feel lost. Then the next time, instead of fighting against everything, we can put our energy into fighting for what really matters.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you let yourself be your blessings. Let your light shine. Let your good resonate. You never know who may need you today to be the one that reminds them how good life and those in it can be.

Have a blessed and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “We are what we want to be.”

As cliche as it may be, we truly are what we make of ourselves and our life is what we allow it to be. We can nourish ourselves, better ourselves, treat ourselves with respect. We can become educated, healthier, more in touch with God and His plan for us. It doesn't matter how much we want to blame a circumstance for our shortcomings, it's on us. It doesn't matter if we try to dismiss our successes. We should recognize them because that was us too. Every moment of courage, every instance of failure, every time we stood up and pushed and backed down and settled is on us as well. It takes a while to realize it. In some moments we simply forget it. Yet here and now we are faced with a reality that we don't know how much time we have to do things that matter to us. We must take control of our lives to a point we deem it a life worth living. People often say live like there is no tomorrow. I say live like there is. Live it with a desire to progress, to be better, to be kind, to grow mentally and spiritually. Live it with the determination of reaching your next goal.  Live it with a heart filled with passion and an appreciation that you control the outcome, you influence your moments, and yes, you become exactly what you allow yourself to be.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize how much you can do, if you simply allow yourself to do it. Have courage, trust in God's faith and live.

Have a blessed and healthy week everyone.
