Daily BITUB- “Hard Choices”

We make tough decisions. We do hard things. We make choices that can and do impact ourselves and others. We have families to support. We have people that rely on us. We have commitments, responsibilities, obligations. I tell people often you have to do what you feel is right. You have to go with your experiences and if you don't have any then you go with your instincts. Sometimes that means you can only do what is right in front of you knowing that God will carry you through whatever comes your way. It may be the best moments of your life, it may be the worst, but regardless it is going to be because you made the decision to do it. We take risks. We take leaps of faith. We take hold of the moments we are given and we make them matter. We push ourselves because we can. We take chances because we must. We try, we fail, we try, we grow, we try, we have setbacks, we try, we succeed. We make tough decisions. We do hard things. We trust in God and Believe in the Unbelievable possibilities of what can be.

Daily BITUB- “No time like the present!”

There is no time like the present. Haven't we all heard that before? Haven't we all been challenged to find our now moment? There are so many people waiting to act. There is so many waiting to do. We have thoughts that this opportunity isn't enough so we wait for the next one, and the next one, and the next one. What if we didn't wait though? What if we took every opportunity? What if we took those chances? What if we went after each moment with the thought this one was the moment? Maybe we swing and miss, but at least we took a swing. Maybe we leapt and didn't land where we thought, but in leaping we grew our faith. There are always blessings. Think back to those what if times. Think back to those moments you wished you acted, but you didn't. While we may not be able to go back, we can be here now. We can be active participants in the opportunities that present themselves every day. We can be open and aware of our now moments. They are our moments. They are happening as we speak. Take a chance. Make a moment. Be a blessing. Do it today. After all, there is no time like the present.

Daily BITUB- “Push Yourself”

As we push ourselves to grow it is natural we are met with roadblocks. We hit them and then we find ourselves either determined to push through them or determined to create as many excuses as we can to not move forward. Often we let fear cloud us. We are afraid to step out because we don't want our weaknesses exposed. I tell those I'm blessed to work with that stepping out means you get exposed or you get exposure. Yet in both you realize where you are and where you are willing to go. The risks we take matter and not taking any is self demoting. It almost guarantees we never get better and we settle for much less than we are capable of. To do nothing should never be an option and really is disrespectful to yourself, to those that trust in you, to those that have believed in you. Grow. Grow with determination. Grow with faith. Grow knowing that you can, and have, surpassed limitations before, and often as we do we start to understand it never really was a limitation in the first place. Every problem deserves a solution. Every opportunity deserves a chance. Every moment deserves its due. Every chance you get to put yourself out there... well you should. You might just find that you and those around you are better for it.

Daily BITUB-“Energy Well Spent”

There is always something. People can and will complain about anything these days. Some even take delight in firing you up to the point you are no longer focused on what needs to be done, but rather what they need you to do. It derails you and that energy really should be elsewhere. I'm not saying don't speak up and speak out. You should say what you need to say and then move on. Dwelling in it, sulking in, living in it only puts the burden of negativity on your shoulders. That's not how it should be. You have things to do. You have solutions to implement. You have joy to spread. You have positivity to light the room that negativity makes dark. That positivity, where you put your energy, how you move on through life are all choices. Make good ones. Trust it, own it, and believe in it. After all, "The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts." (Marcus Aurelius)

Daily BITUB- “Gridlocked”

Have you ever been in gridlocked traffic? That feeling of helplessness, anxiety, frustration can be overwhelming! Have you ever felt the same when you feel like your life is gridlocked? Stuck and feeling like you can't move. You actually might not even want to move because you are scared of what happens when you do. What if you finally get over and you realize you are in the wrong lane? What if you are ready to exit this chapter of your life, but you can maneuver through it? We miss it though. We miss that even in gridlocked traffic we are moving. We may be inching forward, but we are progressing. We simply need to stay the course. We will get there and there will be moments when we speed up only to wish we could slow down. It's all part of the journey. It's forward motion we want no matter the pace. Every leap of faith lands us closer to our dreams. Every moment of truth is a realization of what we are capable of. Every promise to ourselves to keep fighting is testimonial that we are worth fighting for. Every instance we believe when it seems impossible to believe is faith in God and His plan for us. So if you are stuck in the gridlock of life, take a breath, turn up the music, sing a song of praise and give thanks to God for another day to move forward by leaps and bounds or inch by inch... Either way it's a blessing isn't it?

Daily BITUB- “Happy”

You are happy you just don't know it. We tend to base our happiness off of the next thing, and it makes us forget about our current joy. The minute we achieve something we are off to the next and our overall level of expectation is immediately increased. I heard something this week about expectation. Someone said we often chase after that feeling we first had when we first got something. Our first love, our first kiss, our first car, our first job, our first raise, our first met goal. We want that first feeling and we don't realize we have already changed the meter that first feeling was set at. So hence we miss the joys, the gratitude, the opportunities to be happy because we have set unrealistic emotions around what we deem happiness to be. I once took myself through a series of emotions trying to place my finger on what I needed things to be like. I went back to the moment I graduated college thinking about my first job offer. When I was told what I would make I thought man what I can do with that. Then 25 years later I realized my need for more created a cycle where no matter what that offer was it wasn't going to be enough. I have allowed the next thing to cloud my current one and so I create a thought that I can't be happy unless... Unless I have more, unless I get the promotion, unless I have a bigger house, better car, more time, more friends. The list can go on and on. When I stopped myself from thinking that way I realized something. I had all I needed. I had the things necessary to work, to provide, to get from place to place. More importantly I realized I have way more. I have another day God allowed me to wake up. I have plenty of time if I spend it wisely. I have opportunity to want less and give more. I have benchmarks I have met I set for myself years ago. I have friends that care for me, a family that loves me, and no matter the situation a God who felt me worthy enough to allow His son to die for me. I can't tell you what it is that creates happiness for you, I can only share my thoughts, but if you want to be happy take a moment to look around you, to think differently, to appreciate the moments, the good in life and you might just find you are already happy you just forgot how to be.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself to be happy. That you take a moment to realize as bad as life gets there is always something, and in that we realize even in our darkest moments there are blessings.

Daily BITUB- “Masks”

Yesterday my wife had put a note and a Stevia package by the coffee pot for me. The Stevia package has little inspiring notes on them, and this one said "The real you is the best you." It made me smile. It made me reflect on many moments, thoughts, and feelings as of late. I have always fought to find the real me. As days go by we find that our lives and God's plans for them change, and sometimes they aren't aligned. It's on us to align them. For me that means I am often still searching, but now I'm finding lights in, and at the end, of every tunnel I'm going through these days. I've spent a lot of times hiding behind things. I believe we've all hid behind something a time or two. We all wear our masks. Those masks can come in many forms... anger, depression, fear, doubt, addiction, denial. Those masks can cause problems that rear their ugly head when we least expect it. We wear those to hide ourselves from ourselves. Our masks often give others comfort. We think that's a good thing, until it's not. They portray a strength that we can handle life, until we can't. They represent a different kind of life we may hope others will think we are living. It's hard to take off those masks, but God wants us to be us. He created us in His image so that we may strive to be like Him. While life won't always be easy and you will want to reach for those masks again, the hope is you accept the help, the prayers, the truths, the comforts, the blessings God provides, and as the note says realize "The real you is the best you."

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you are able to have the courage to take off that mask and let others see you for you. You are a beautiful child of God and while He does and always will see you He wants others to see you as well.

Daily BITUB- “Experiences”

Yesterday as I was reading and I came across something that reminded me of how important it is we go through certain moments. It said, "Don't underestimate the importance of your experience." Often times we feel like we aren't sure if we can handle a certain situation only because we have forgotten about the times we did. Our moments that mold us and help us become who we are matter. The opportunities we took hold of, the foundation we have created, the walls we've broken through, the mountains we've climbed all contribute to how we approach life. We are often stronger than we realize. Our resilience has been strengthen and our tolerance for the challenge has become greater over time. I have said often that as we move across life and have like experiences we may recognize our surroundings, we may have a thought of dejavu, we may be in familiar territory, but we are not the same person. We are not without knowledge built by those experiences. We may recognize the scenery, but it will not recognize us. So, don't ever underestimate your experiences and just how important they really are.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you are able to see the blessings in any and all experiences you encounter. Give thanks to God for it is those blessings that create who we are and sustain us as we progress through our journey.

Daily BITUB- “Knowing”

It is never our intention to stop growing, but often we stop ourselves from knowing. I've done it. I stopped wanting to get it. I stopped wanting to know things. Knowing what was right and wrong, knowing why I chose that over this, knowing what was in front of me, knowing why I wanted the things I did, knowing who was in my corner and why they were, knowing my place, knowing God. We stop knowing sometimes because to know is to have to face things maybe we don't want to face. We have to be real and clear with expectations of others and ourselves. What are we doing? Why are we doing it? Who do we need and why do we need them? What role are we playing? Why is our life the way it is? How do we want our lives to be? A lot of questions that we answer. A lot of roads we travel. A lot of faith. A lot of trust. A lot of believing that allowing ourselves to know all the things we can about ourselves is the starting point to growing into the person that God intended us to be. If we want to grow, then we must start allowing ourselves to know, and know ourselves well.

Daily BITUB- “Quality of Life”

What is the most crucial piece to ensuring quality of life? Is it God, career, family, money... All of it? It's nobodies decision but yours. Could you have the quality you seek without something? I read often, and as I dig deeper into what it means to truly live a life full of vigor for living I find myself realizing my quality of life has non negotiable things. It wasn't always that way though as we tend to compromise if we want to avoid conflict, if we want to keep up a facade, if we are living someone else's dream. At some point though the non negotiable become just that and we start to realize our life revolves around things that matter most to us. It's after you start to strip away all the non essentials and realize exactly what is essential and what quality of life means. Are you aware of the things you don't allow in your life and the things you refuse to live without? Are you surrounding yourself with people who are willing to let you pursue, to grow, to create that life? As we get older our priorities will change, but you begin to realize the values, the morals, the commitments, the promises you've made to yourself and to God during those quiet moments you asked for help, guidance and hope remain. Quality of life for me is about living. Living the life you set out to live. Living not for those you must live with, but the ones that you are determined to live for. It's about creating real relationships with real people. It's about taking all you've been given by God and giving it back to others through your time, your talents, your faith, and your promises. It's about being ready and willing to walk the path, carry the cross, do the will of God. "Not that I speak in regards to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content." (Philippians 4:11)

Daily BITUB- “Stop Going Through the Motions”

Stop going through the motions. If you aren't feeling it then say so. You can't reach a level you aren't passionate about. It applies to all you do. You won't have the relationship you want if you are committed to it and that same feeling of commitment is reciprocated. Doesn't matter if it's work related, couple related, church related. If it doesn't stir your mind, excite you, fill your heart then it isn't for you. That's ok, but be honest about it. If you don't like the place you are then change it. I've yet to encounter a problem in a situation I wasn't passionate about that didn't offer a solution. Sometimes it's necessary to completely overhaul it and while it takes work, if it matters, then you do it. Change is sometimes messy. It creates temporary situations with uneasy tension, emotions, and challenges. The list can go on and on, but going through the motions creates lasting impressions they may never subside- animosity, regret, dislike, lack of trust, and avoidance. Things that can withstand the test of time when you aren't willing to actually test it by standing up, shouting out, and being true to what matters. Ask yourself if you are going through the motions. Don't be afraid of the answer. Once you know you'll know what must come next, and knowing is the first step in doing.

Daily BITUB- “Thankful and Full of Grace”

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans." (Proverbs 16:3)

I found myself sitting in church yesterday thinking about where I am in my life. The Pastor was talking about being thankful and was giving praise to God for the many volunteers the past few weeks. I wondered if I was doing enough, giving enough, sharing enough. I wondered if I died tomorrow what would I be presenting to God with the life I've lived. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for everything God has given me, and even more overwhelmed knowing that I didn't deserve it. I've learned this past year how significant God's Grace is in our lives. I knew it through growing up in the church, but it has been this past year that I truly began to understand it. I found myself more in awe of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. My clarity came in the form of what I thought was not a blessing only to discover it was one of the biggest blessings God has ever allowed me to have this year. It was an experience that shook me. I guess you can say though it shook me and woke me. I don't pretend to preach, to know the answers, to push my faith on others, but I also don't pretend that it doesn't matter to me. I share my thoughts, my ideas, my beliefs, my faith, my hope and my path because maybe someone needs to hear it. Maybe I do it because I need to hear it and remind myself when I get off the path. God is great all the time. He is constantly at work in our lives in as much as we care to see it, to live it, and to believe it. Still I wonder, and it is in that wonder, that I will continue to pray in gratitude for the Grace or God and do what I can to serve Him.
