Daily BITUB- “You’ll Understand”

There are moments in our live where we begin to understand what it means to love someone more than we love ourselves. We start to see the beauty in living a life for those that matter most, and we begin to understand exactly why we do.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you see the beauty of living for others, of serving others, of loving others. For just as God so loved us that He gave His only Son.

Have a blessed weekend everyone!

Daily BITUB- “Where are my blessings?”

I read a comment on a post where someone said, "Where have all the blessings in my life gone?"  I thought about that and realized how many times I've heard it said and how many times I've said it myself.  Looking for those blessings amidst the chaos that life sometimes deals us clouds our vision from what is right there in from of us. You know we take some things for granted. We may even try to justify it by thinking it's ok because everyone does, but that really is just a way to let ourselves off the hook. We are very good at feeling sorry for ourselves. Even better about making excuses for why we didn't get the job, didn't reach our weight goal, didn't complete the task. Don't get me wrong, life can be a mess sometimes. A mess of questions and a plea to God to stop the madness. It's hard to comprehend it in the moment that there is a light at the end of this tunnel, that we can be the light in the tunnel, and God is always lighting our way. We forget that we can grab hold of things we often overlook. A memory when all was well, our family, a friend, a job, our children, a roof over our heads, a comforting gesture from someone, an opportunity to give back, a moment of silence, an opportunity to pray. Just because we are missing them doesn't mean God took them away. We simply must try to take the moments that move us, that guide us, that give us strength and purpose... Take those every day  moments and hold them tight, and chances are you'll be able to say, "There are my blessings, right in front of me where they've always been".

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize the beauty and blessings that are ever present, even when we fail to see them. May you find comfort in knowing that and have faith that God will carry you through this as He has carried you before and will again.

Have a blessed day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Some Days”

Some days you wake up motivated and pumped. You are ready for the day. You have goals, you are self-inspired, you are devoted. Then other days you wake up numb. There is this void, the fear of not knowing what comes next overwhelms you and you would rather sit and binge watch Netflix then study, workout, learn, grow, face others. Yesterday you knew that what you were doing mattered. You knew that it would be important to go after it. You knew what it was that you needed to do. Today is different. You aren't sure at all if what you are doing is ever going to make a difference. You aren't sure if what you say is heard, what you feel is real, and you can't think clearly. I have found that people pursuing something, people who are passionate about living, dreaming, achieving are prepared for those days where nothing goes right. Not necessarily prepared for what they have to do to navigate through the situation, but prepared that they can, they must, and they will find a way to do it. Anything that is worth having is going to require sacrifice, a push, a promise to yourself that you will face whatever you must to keep chasing that place, that goal, that experience no matter how hard it gets. You may have to give up something to have something. You may have to set time aside to do what is necessary to equip you for those days where a void must be filled and you are the only one that can fill it. On those days that you are at your best, take note. Remember that feeling, remember that person, remember that passion and use it to motivate yourself on the days nothing else will, and make no mistake what you are doing matters in as much as you allow it to matter.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you know that God gives you plans and creates paths for you to walk. He gives you blessings to remind you that you can. I pray that you have the strength to continue the journey, and you have the passion to know that your purpose matters, and God will continue to be there as you pursue exactly what He intends for that purpose to be.

Have a blessed day!

Daily BITUB- “Reflecting on Kobe”

"I'm reflective only in the sense that I learn to move forward. I reflect with a purpose."- Kobe Bryant

As most everyone has heard Kobe Bryant along with his 13-year-old daughter, Gigi, and seven others died Sunday in a helicopter crash. It shook many worlds and had many of us taking pause and reflecting on life. Moments like this often do. Friday I had a tough day and was completely discouraged. My day started out positive, but didn't end that way. By Sunday night though things were quickly put into perspective. We spend so much time letting things bring us down, letting others beat us up, sweating the small things, complaining, arguing, fighting, wanting. We let negative people put darkness on our positive moments. What  am I saying? Life can change in an instant. Everything we think matters can be flipped upside in an instant and we miss the beauty of our day to day blessings. My wife and I have a 13 year old daughter and I can't imagine life without them and what the families are all feeling today. We will pray for them, pray for one another, pray that during the pause many will take the time to appreciate the opportunities to say, do, become, all the things we need to... That we put our energy and focus on the things that really matter and that we reflect with purpose.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and may you all have a blessed week.

Daily BITUB- “Push Back”

Push back! If you don't agree, speak up. If you have a different view of things, express it. Don't settle. Don't be a product of your environment, make the environment a product of you. There is no satisfaction in saying it's ok when it's not. The giving in will catch up to you. The frustration of always saying yes when it's not at all aligned with your focus will eventually reach a boiling point. It's ok to disagree. Just as it's ok for someone to disagree with us. Healthy conflict is part of growing and developing. It's how great minds work, how ideas are cultivated, and different ways of thinking come to fruition. Being open to the possibility of blazing your own path is how new expectations are created, how bars are raised, how limitations are overcome. Sometimes you have to realize that you want and need more, and then have the strength, the courage, the faith to go out and get it. Push back! It may be the exact thing that lights that fire inside you that pushes you forward.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself to be open and honest to the possibility of change, growth, and truth in what matters most. In all things we do let us do them with a servant heart and God as our companion.

Have a blessed day all!

Daily BITUB- “Go and Grow”

When you start to pull away from something or someone there is a reason for it. You may find that it is no longer necessary in your life. It may be as simple as you have moved on and are focused on different priorities. It may be a person who no longer shares your values and morals. We grow apart from many things in our lives and some we grow with. We grow into, grow out of, grow with, grow towards… If we are honest about our progression then we will be aware of that progress. Think about how flowers will grow toward the sunlight. Are we that different? Do we too want to grow towards the things that help us live? Do we want to grow with the people that make us stronger, better, and encourage that growth? We grow towards that light because it helps us shine and in turn we are able to help others do the same. Throughout our lives we are all faced with the moments where we just know, and other times it comes gradually until we realize we are in a different place with different focus with different ideas with different people. I once told a group of people that as much as we are willing to go with God, we must be willing to grow with Him. The lessons we are blessed to experience, the people that help us see things, learn things, feel things, good and bad, are all a part of it. To understand the good we will experience the bad. To see the light at its brightest we often experience our darkest moments, and even when we start to pull away, there is growth in knowing that that part of our life was exactly as God intended it to be.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize, and have courage, to grow with the things that make you better and walk away from those things that do not.

Have a blessed day!

Daily BITUB- “Reckless Love”

have heard the song  "Reckless Love" many times before, but this weekend I actually listened to the words. In that song we sing, "I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give yourself away. Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God." "When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me. You have been so, so kind to me." God's reckless love for us never ceases. There have been so many times I confessed to myself, to God, to others that I was not worthy of being in this place. I didn't deserve, or earn for that matter, to be loved by my family, my friends, our God. It's not a statement to say "poor me" it was a real feeling of not being worthy. "When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me." I am a sinner. I don't always do the right things. I don't always say the right things. I challenge God by not living the right life sometimes. I take for granted my blessings. I don't give thanks for what I have in search of all the things I don't. Yet, God continues to chase me down. He knows where I am headed even before I get there. He is there in the dark; He is there in the light. He was there when my babies were born. He was there when my wife said I do. He was there when I fell, when I quit, when I cried, when I laughed, when I succeeded, when I wasn't. He was there even when I said go away. He will be there when I can't be, and He will be there when all I need is Him and when I am too afraid to say so. I know I can't earn it, but still He is there. We are blessed in that. We are redeemed in that. I know I don't deserve it, yet we are given His grace for no reason… No reason! Just because we are His if we want to be… "Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God."

Have a blessed week all!

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize that God is never going to stop pursuing you. He is never going to stop loving and chasing you down. He is never going to stop looking for your heart, your mind, your soul. He is and always will be reckless for us, and for that We should be thankful.

Daily BITUB- “MLK Day”

"Be a bush if you can't be a tree. If you can't be a highway, just be a trail. If you can't be a sun, be a star. For it isn't by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today I wanted to take moment to reflect on the trailblazing movements that Dr. King placed emphasis on. A society built on love not hate, a place of equality and a vision that instilled a sense of worth no matter who you were. A dream that was worth living then and is now more than ever.

This weekend my wife and I were blessed to host a group of youth from our church and participate in a weekend of worship. It was inspiring and moving to say the least to see so many people singing, listening to the word of God, and praising Him for all He has given to all of us. Part of the message that hit me the most was the truth in that we are ALL redeemed, we are all worthy, we are all children of God. Jesus didn't die for some of us, He died for all of us. Everybody has opportunity to offer something, everyone has moments to be great, to give, to serve, to be everything that God intended us to be. We simply have to realize that we can, that God wants us to, that he is passionate about loving us as we are. We are not perfect, but with God we are perfectly loved.

God is at work in all we do. It is up to us to see it, to be present, to want to be found. It is up to us, as Dr. King says to be the best of whatever we are, and to be grateful to God that we can be.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and have a blessed week everyone!

Daily BITUB- “Urgency”

Are you going to finish it? Where's the urgency? Are you creating the necessary push and drive you need? It's not that you must be all out every moment of the day, but to not get after it more often than not will catch up to you. Maybe you only do it when you feel like someone is watching. Maybe you  re-up it every new year. Maybe you wait for someone to push you, pass you by, or call you out. Thing is if you aren't doing it for you then you shouldn't be doing it. If it's all for show rather than to create a better tomorrow, a better day, a better you, pave a path, build a foundation, help others, then at some point the wall will simply be too high to climb. There is no greater time to tackle the moment then when you are in it. That passion you feel in that initial moment will never be greater. Your ability to move leaps and bounds starts when you let it start. The hesitation will create doubt. The delay will create fear. The urgency though, that creates momentum. That creates determination. That creates confidence. That creates a need to do it and do it now. So, what's your must do right now? What must be done and done urgently? If it matters, then move it up to the top of the list! Get on it! You simply can't finish what you don't even start.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize those things that matter most and give yourself permission to chase them down. Allow God to be your companion and have faith in the path He has you on.

Have a blessed weekend every one!

Daily BITUB- “Wonder”

Remember that sense of wonder you had when you were a kid? Since I can remember I always had this fascination with trees. They were like a sanctuary to me. I would climb as high as I could go and didn't think twice about where I was going... I just wanted to climb. Now, I fell out of a lot of trees too. Which of course is bound to happen when we allow the beauty of that wonder to keep our fears at bay. While I had some tough falls it never deterred me from wanting to climb more. As time went on my mom would see me running out the door and ask me, "How many trees are you going to fall out of today?" In other words climb! It became a statement that would carry me for many years, but as I got older I forgot about that wonder. Instead I allowed complacency to set in and as my wonder became a thing of the past so did my drive to climb higher. I was never afraid of heights, but I started to fear the fall. I started to think if it was worth it. After all we are safe right here on the ground, safe in our comfort zones, safe and convinced that settling is the way to go. I have challenged myself more intentionally over the year to remember what it felt like to climb. What it felt like to do the hard things, to push beyond boundaries to exceed limitations, because that's where that wonder lives. That is where our ability to be more, do more, see more, create, invent, innovate, lead, teach, grow, experience resides. Do you still have that wonder? Do you still want to climb? Are you holding that feeling back? Maybe you are, maybe you are afraid of the fall, maybe you just need someone to remind you that the higher you climb the better the view, the bigger the dream, the greater the wonder. Maybe, so, consider yourself reminded, and I pray you get to enjoy the climb once again.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself to have that wonder, that you let Hod help guide you, and you climb as high as you can go! After all the leaps of faith from there go much farther.

Have a blessed day!

Daily BITUB- “Wake-up Call”

What's it going to take? What is going to be your wake-up call? If you have it are you even going to listen to it? When we are in those moments where the lessons come the hardest we are quick to say we won't do this ever again. Then as time goes on we get complacent, we get the confidence back, we get that sense of invulnerability and we go back to old ways. It's a vicious cycle and honestly a dangerous one. We put ourselves in situations we shouldn't, and that old record plays… "Nothing is going to happen to me." That is until it does and we are left there once again trying to understand why we let ourselves back into this place. I can tell you that over the past few years my guardian angels were working overtime, and God was giving me sign after sign that I needed to be aware of things going on around me that I couldn't, or rather, refused to see. Until God decided I needed more than a nudge, but a push. While part of me was hurt, angry, confused, the other part of me was grateful. As time has gone on I have realized what it was that God was actually doing. That was the key though… Me realizing it. Not others, not some motivational speaker telling me to live, not some book telling my why I should, but me seeing something that was always there. There is no special remedy, no silver bullet, no magical thing that is going to wake us up. For some it isn't one moment, but many moments. For others it is a constant realization of what we must do, the people that are there trying to help us do it, and the ones who refuse to leave us, and we finally realizing we don't want them to. It is the clarity that some people must go, some things we must put down, other things we must remove from our thoughts, and still those things that will fight themselves back in, but we must do what we can to keep them out. None of it is easy. None of it happens overnight. None of it happens until we are ready for it to happen. Until we say this is what it takes. This I hear. This I see. This I feel. This right here is the wake-up call I needed… and thank God He allowed me to have it.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you take a moment to listen to what God is telling you. That you see the moments, learn the lessons, wake up to the beauty of life and the blessings in living it.

Have a blessed day!

Daily BITUB- “Specifics”

Be specific. How often do you hear someone talk about a goal or a dream, but there really is no substance to it. It is vague at best. How many times have we done that? We talk about wanting to lose weight, to make more money, to get promoted, to be healthier, to have better relationships, to get closer to God. All that talk, but with no real goal in mind. It is easy to say it, but why is it some achieve it and others don't? Habits, determination, values, focus, that's why! You must be specific, and then you must put the plan in a real motion towards an end goal! If you are saying you want to do one thing, but your actions are reflective of another the gap between achieving that goal and where you are is only going to grow. You can't be something you are not willing to be. It seems simple, but it is not. There are so many distractions, so much negativity, so many things that provide a mask of instant gratification around us it is easy to forget about what matters and go after the things that don't. I've been there. I have chosen one thing over the other thinking it won't matter until I created a habit and a false need. We are creatures of habit, so if you aren't creating those habits that align with where you want to go then you are not going to get there. So, if you are trying to figure out why things are not coming to fruition,  start with looking at yourself and determine if you really want what you are saying you do. Ensure you set yourself benchmarks, checks and balances, find accountability partners (that you know will be honest with you about where you are), and then be specific. Write it down, wake up and give yourself a talking to, say your prayers of thanks for the opportunity at the start of the day and at the end, and be what you set out to be. Honestly, clearly, and specifically be the you that you are capable of being.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you have the strength, the path, and the courage to set your dreams in motion and pursue them with the faith you can and will achieve them.

Have a blessed day!

Daily BITUB- “Tomorrow”

I'll do it tomorrow. I'll get to you tomorrow. I'll handle that issue tomorrow. I'll read to you tomorrow. I'll play with you tomorrow. I'll take that trip, I'll ask for the chance, I'll tell them I love them... Tomorrow. Yes, those words are so easy to say. It is even easier to make ourselves push everything off until tomorrow. We are so good at letting ourselves off the hook. We can conjure up every excuse in the book to keep from having to do something that takes us out of our comfort zone, off our path, away from our plan. If only we would take that energy and use it to create reasons why we can vs why we can't accomplish something. Nobody is going to do it for us, nobody will be able to motivate you if you are emotionally engaged in your own goals and dreams. Who is setting the  expectations? Who is responsible for holding up their end of the bargain? You are. You control the now, you are the decision maker, you set the plan in motion, and you decide when, what, and how it carries out. We've all heard tomorrow is not promised so many times, but it doesn't resonate until it matters. Then when it does it's too late. So, get to what you need to get to. Do the things you need to do. Stop waiting for the moment and make the moment. Not tomorrow, but today.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you schedule the things that matter. That you do what you need to do, but take time to remind those that matter they do, that you take moments for you, and you don't get so wrapped up making a living you forget to live.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Daily BITUB- “Book Light”

I took a walk yesterday. It was muggy out, but the birds seemed to like it. I walked past my favorite tree that is close to our parking lot here at the office. It reminds me of the longevity it takes to grow. It reminds me of how seasons come and go as it sheds its leaves and grows new ones. Such are our seasons as we too are able to start anew. I once sat in a room, many years ago afraid, tired, frustrated, lost and thought about not going on. It was a dark place filled with the emotion of hate, anger, and pity. I wanted to move out of the moment, but I couldn't and the result was a spiral that couldn't end anywhere but rock bottom. I still go to that place sometimes only to sit across from myself and talk about where we are and how we do our best to keep moving towards a better place. That's really all any of us wants. That negativity is strong though and does its best to remind me that if bad can happen it will. That we shouldn't be too happy, because the falls from high up hurt more. I know I have said it the last couple of years to a few people, but this year I am committed to finishing a book I'm working on. People ask me often why I haven't and honestly because it is hard to write as that dark place is the central part of that book. Though, today, I am reminded of something I couldn't really fathom then… I am not alone. I have a wife whose faith is stronger than anybody I have ever met, a son and daughter that give me the courage and the desire to be stronger, family and friends that would move mountains for me. So, I know as I go to that place I don't go alone. Through the many blessings that God has given me, He is there and maybe through the blessing of writing I can help someone along the way and finally shine some light in that dark place.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize you are never alone. If you feel lost remember God is ever present we have only to want to be found.

Have a blessed weekend every one!

Daily BITUB- “Frustrated Progression”

My son started taking piano lessons a few months ago. He gets frustrated sometimes when he is not able to play a certain song or piece together what he has learned. From the other room we can hear his grunts and sighs of frustration. What he doesn't hear though is his progression. We hear it because we are listening and are hearing him play things we never have. It's hard for him to understand how far he has come because he only hears what he isn't doing. Sometimes we get so caught up in our goal we forget the progress we have made. We don't even stop to appreciate the growth, the experience, the new found understanding of what we are capable of achieving. Think about where you are vs where you were. Do you feel like you are going someplace? Do you have purpose, passion, drive? What is the vision for you? It is so easy to want to give up when things start to inch their way forward. I know we want the leaps and bounds we experienced when we started, but that's not always going to happen. We must take comfort that even if we move a little we are still moving. Progress is progress! So, as he plays we continue to encourage his growth. We listen to the beauty of what he doesn't hear and remind him of where he was, where he is, and how to look forward to where he is going. In May he will have his first recital. We can't wait. Progress is progress and we will tell him to practice, to appreciate, to grow, to prepare for it, to play on even through that frustration. It will matter. A good thought for all of us. Wherever you are remember every step, no matter the distance, is a step forward.  The frustration is not permanent, your growth and experience is… Play on!

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself an appreciation of progress. Every leap, every step, every inch forward is that much closer to your dreams.

Have a blessed day.

Daily BITUB- “Differences”

"Differences make us who we are, not someone we aren't."- Alanna Carrizales
When I was younger I used to have many issues with self-esteem. I didn't share it and often masked it by cutting up and attempting to fit in. Things got me down and the fear of being rejected kept me there. It was easier to stay in a hole then it was to look out with the chance I could be pushed back in. I was afraid people wouldn't like me and the result was putting on whatever mask I needed to wear to accommodate the group I wanted to be with. I made exceptions to my own values my parents instilled in me, and I certainly wasn't worried about what God thought of it. The instant gratification of approval was good enough for me. As time went on that resulted in being in situations I didn't' want to be in, and ultimately ended up in trouble. It got to a point there was no esteem that wasn't my own. There was no self. It took years to start seeing that certain things didn't matter. It took even longer to understand that the people you want in your life are the ones that make sure you understand just how much you do matter. I learned that surrounding yourself with images of who you want to be steals your ability to be who you are supposed to be. My daughter said the above quote to us this past week and it resonated with me. "Differences make us who we are, not someone we aren't". How right she is, and if we could all understand that we might be more accepting. We may be able to better handle those who don't accept us, and be reminded to be more understanding in those moments of weakness when we fail to accept others. Our differences are the things that make us have that self. Our esteem is ours and through the eyes of God and those that care enough to allow us to be who we need to be... we are  exactly as we should be.
Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow your differences to make you shine. That you let yourself be you in hopes that along the way you inspire others to be themselves.
Have a blessed day every one!

Daily BITUB- “New Year’s Thoughts”

Often times we sit and think about what our resolutions will be. We make these decisions about how we will change, how we will pursue, how we will evolve. We are determined, we are passionate, we are focused… Until we aren't. When I look back at 2019 there are many defining moments for me. There were some big moments that shook me, there were subtle moments that mended me, and there were moments where I realized who and what I needed to have in my life. There were things I realized I needed to fix, things I needed to discard, and things that needed to be overhauled. There were moments I reached my wits end, threw up my hands, gave up, gave in, and lost faith. There were moments I sat in silence beating myself up and refused to listen to the noise around me of comfort, of understanding, of prayers. There were moments my pride didn't allow me to ask for help. There were moments I was selfish, uncaring, guarded. There were moments I wanted to give more, but ended up taking more. Then there were beautiful moments of realization, of the light turning on, of the path becoming clear. There were moments I fell into the arms of my family and my wife exhausted and moments where I simply let myself fall into God's hands. There were good moments where I was able to do good things, and moments I exceeded my limitations and pushed myself more than I ever have. As I walk into 2020 I am not interested in resolutions, promises, proclamations, but rather I will put my energy into doing all I can to simply be better than I was yesterday. To continue to learn about myself, about others, about influence, about what really matters and why it does. I will do all I can to keep learning more about what it means to have faith, to accept God's grace, to be a better husband, father, brother, and friend. I won't pretend I can do it, but I will be honest about my desire to try. I will pray every day for strength, for guidance, for faith, and give thanks to all of you who continue to be a part of the journey, of the path, of God's blessings, and for allowing me to Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU.

Happy New Year every one and my prayer for all of us today is that we realize our potential, we inspire, we are motivated, we are grateful for the ability to make 2020 blessed.
