Daily BITUB- “Long Way Around”

"For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." (Isaiah 41:13)

The road is sometimes longer than I want it to be. Yet I find comfort that I wake up with another day to influence the outcome of it. Blessed to maybe touch lives, to have mine touched, to be inspired and to appreciate the gifts God gives us. I used to not, but now every new day reminds me of the potential to experience more life. It gives me another chance to get my "I love you's" up to date. It gives me another moment to share with my family. It provides me new experiences, new lessons, more opportunities to reach higher. Sure, it also brings new challenges, new setbacks, adversity, negativity. That comes with living life. I've taken so many moments for granted. I have missed things because I wanted to dwell on what I didn't have instead of appreciating what I did. I've been lost, hurt, tired and afraid. Yet somewhere in all of that I decided to give myself to God. I decided to stop putting myself in other people's shoes and instead put myself in God's hands. I still digress sometimes. I still try to let Him go. I still question things. I still get weak in my faith. Yet He continues to leave the 99 to come get me. He continues to remind me of my blessings. He continues to guide me undeservingly. He continues to take my right hand and help me... In Grace, with hope, in faith, in love. Yes, I am grateful that the journey is long and that I am blessed to continue to have the opportunity to take the long way around.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you simply are able to pause if for a moment and appreciate that today is another day to let God lead the way.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day all.

Daily BITUB- “Relationships”

The relationships in our lives are so important. The ones that bring us joy often are the ones we want to migrate to, but the relationships that create the most instability are often the ones we spend most of our energy on. Maybe it's a sense of expectation that it will be better or that we can make it better. Maybe we simply imagine that the hardest relationships will yield the long and lasting friendships we long for. We get caught up in the idea things will change only to find out they don't. We get caught in a cycle and the relationships that matter start to get less and less of our time. During a time in my career I travelled often. I had an opportunity to meet a lot of people and learn a lot of lessons. I saw great leaders, good friends, selfless people, and then I saw the complete opposite. Even today I have those same scenarios in my life, but the view of them is different. I've learned that every relationship brings us something. We grow from the hard ones, we are nurtured from the good ones, but we mustn't overlook the blessings in having relationships to experience. Every step of the way we will cross the paths that God knows we must. It is up to us to ensure we make, take, learn, teach and give what we can, and when we can, to each and every relationship we will have throughout our lifetime. Then no matter the ones we spend our energy on they will be exactly the ones God intended for us to when He allowed our paths to cross.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer today is a "Thank you" to God for my lessons and for allowing me the blessing of knowing those I know, learning from those that teach, and loving those that want nothing more than to love and to be loved.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Fight the Fight”

"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." This quote by Margaret Thatcher resonated with me. We fight battles constantly with ourselves, with situations, with depression, with addictions, with simply staying the course. I know I have and I still do. There are moments of digression. Moments of weakness. Moments where the walls close in and the darkness overwhelms. Yet I find strength in knowing I still can fight. As long as I feel that then it exists. It's not easy, but the option is ever present. I know when I'm weary I can lean on faith, on prayer, on those holding me up when I can't stand. I used to cringe at the thought of fighting something again, but the alternative of giving up and giving in simply can't be an option. It can't ever be. There are too many reasons to push on. Too many reasons to want more. Too many opportunities still to realize the good, and there are more dreams to dream. I once stood in an auditorium speaking to a group and told them that there will be setbacks. There will be walls others won't climb. There will be fear and anxiety. There will be a reality that things aren't exactly what they envisioned. Yet the constant of uncertainty was no match for the constant that existed in them. A constant vigilance of expectation that only knows the boundaries we set. They had a foundation they had cultivated over many years that had roots that generations past had already planted. They had faith and trust in a God that allowed for anything they believed possible if they wanted it. They had a Grace we didn't deserve. A belief from many supporters, some they would never meet, and some that would always be present. They had an instinct that lives deep in all of us to become more, to believe we can be more, and the passion to not give up when others might. As I sit here today, I know these things to be true. I still fight battles. I still push away negative. I still fear that the bad will outweigh the good. Then I remember that life is whatever we want it to be. The decision to live it is ours. No one can take it away unless we allow it. No matter how many times we fight the fight we are blessed that we are here, we are present, we get to be active participants in the outcome and sometimes the victory is simply that we have the chance to fight once again.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize the potential that exists in every moment to find blessings. No matter what you are facing you won't face it alone. God is there, the blessings He gives us are there, the strength is there. May you pause for a moment to look around and realize it.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day all.

Daily BITUB- “Intentional and Deliberate”

Are you being deliberate in your actions? Are you staying true to your values? Are you being intentional in the relationships you are building, keeping, letting go? I ask myself these things often when I find myself at odds with people and situations I feel are hurting rather than helping. It's hard to move past trust issues when you've been let down time and time again. The excuses and the avoidance of dealing with situations is mind numbing and disappointing. The lack of trust starts to infect other relationships as well because you find others masking or making excuses for people's behaviors. What do you do? You have to decide where you are and what role you choose to play. You may be making tough decisions that take you out of your comfort zone. You may be moving into uncharted territory. You may need to walk away from something you tolerate to accept that it's something you won't. You have to face those moments to create change and to realize what matters. You have to throw yourself at situations that you know are toxic in order to deal with them. You have to expose things others won't for fear of repercussion knowing that you did your part and it matters that you did. Maybe you have options others don't. Maybe you are the catalyst that lights the fire others need to find their courage. Maybe you are the beacon that guides and the foundation that others have been waiting to stand on. Maybe, when it's all done you are standing by yourself. With your values and your beliefs intact. With the comfort of knowing that you didn't compromise what mattered and maybe somehow, someway, someone's life was better for it.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you know God is with you in all things. His strength is your strength. He will not abandon you. Have faith that He will be there in as much as you want Him to be.

Have a blessed, healthy and safe day everyone.

The Daily BITUB- “Always Serve”

We all need feedback. We all have areas of opportunity. We all have moments where we will give and get that feedback. With that said it is important to understand how we present it. Often times we lose sight of a message because of how it is delivered. When our self orientation is off the charts we turn people off and the real intention gets lost in the translation. With all we have going on in the world today it is important that we are aware and intentional in not only what we say, but how we say it. Hope you enjoy the video.

Giving all thanks and glory to God for allowing me the opportunity to share, and giving thanks to all of you for the continued support.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU.

Daily BITUB- “Deliberate Faith”

"We never grow closer to God when we just live life. It takes deliberate pursuit and attentiveness." -Francis Chan

I've heard people say, "What if what you are going through is preparing you for what is to come?" I'm learning that it's not "what if" at all. It is preparing you. In many crisis that I have experienced, I've found myself at odds with the moment... Fighting to understand, questioning why, angry with God. Trying to question my way out of it instead of dealing and accepting that there is a reason for it. God's reason, not mine. God's timing, not mine. Yesterday during bible study this very topic came up. We must believe in God's miracles vs resting on our doubt. Understanding that God already knows when we will question Him, even before we do. It's ok to seek understanding. God will lay out the plan, but then it's on us. We have to do our part. Faith isn't a switch we turn on and off. It's an everyday thing we must commit to and work on. I've said it before: it's not enough to go with God, we must be willing to grow with Him. In the good times, the bad times, in the light, in the dark, in calm waters, through the storms. All of it is part of our journey. A journey God already knows how it can end and is waiting for us... We just have to be willing to do what it takes in faith, in prayer, in love to get there.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that if you are in a place of uncertainty, know that through God all is certain. Put your faith in Him and trust that where you are headed He will be there.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy week all.

Daily BITUB- “Feeling It”

I love to write, but there have been days I'm not feeling it. I used to put the pen down on those days, but I've found some of my best writing comes when I'm not in the mood for it. Crazy? Well, not really. It's in those moments that I'm writing without a specific topic that the creativity of the moment takes over. The things that are in the back of my mind come out and the experiences in my heart take shape. It's feeling vs emotion. Think about that in terms of a commitment to something. When we first start a goal we are fired up. We go after it with all we are. At the height of our emotion we motivate ourselves and we are unrelenting in pushing to do what it takes. As time goes on we hit a wall, we get distracted, we are frustrated and we start to lose interest. It's not that it's less important, but we might simply be spent. Those are the times we have to dig in and find it in ourselves to keep the pace. We have to remember that feeling we had when we decided this was worth it. That's when it matters and we figure out just how much that goal and dream really does matter to us. It's finding the push when we least feel it that will get us further than we thought we could go. It's a difference maker and a differentiator between a hobby and a passion. For me, as I've adopted that different perspective, there really aren't any days where I'm not feeling it. Instead I'm finding more and more days that I truly do feel it more.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you let yourself feel. You allow the emotion of a moment to give way to the passion of the experience. It's in that you will find what matters and why it does.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day.

Daily BITUB- “Choices”

Have you ever sat and wrestled with what you were going to do in a situation? That's not a bad thing unless you get caught in a vicious cycle of indecisiveness. So much that you might just throw in the towel. Afraid to take a chance. Afraid to make a move. Afraid that it's the wrong choice. I've made many wrong choices that I've learned from. I've made choices I thought were wrong only to find out that it made me reevaluate a situation and find a better way all together. I've made the right choice only to find out that my actions affected others negatively and it helped me be more aware of others as I moved forward. I've lost opportunities because I've delayed choosing a way to go. I've given up because I was too stubborn to accept I needed to go a different way. Sometimes the worst choice is not making one. You will start to move further and further away from what matters if you don't stick to your values, your beliefs, your faith, and let it guide you through whatever choices you need to make. Sometimes faith is all we have and it's enough. Sometimes we leap with the trust that God will help us land where we must, exactly when we must. At the end of the day most choices boil down to courage. Courage that we may learn a hard lesson, we may fail, we may miss the mark all together, but we will gather experience, knowledge, understanding... And when you look at it that way, there really isn't a wrong choice, is there?

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that whatever you have before you, know that choosing to have God in your life makes every other choice grounded in faith, hope, and love.

Have a blessed, healthy and safe day all.

Daily BITUB- “Know Your Passion”

You know, I used to think just knowing how to do something was enough. It's not. Not even close. You have to truly understand your commitment level and focus on what you expect the outcome to be. We all have ability, but not everyone will be willing to do what it takes to realize the full potential of that ability. Think about the times you put all your energy into something. It was an entirely different kind of focus wasn't it? It wasn't about what others did or didn't do, but rather what you were holding yourself accountable to doing that mattered. There were less excuses, distractions couldn't derail you, problems had solutions. You systematically broke down each step along the way until you reached the goal. Why? Because instead of talking about it, over-planning, and being afraid to take risks, you were going to do it. I've said it often that I've never met a problem that I couldn't overcome when I was passionate about influencing the outcome. I believe all of us at some point have to realign our idea of what matters to us. When that happens, you instinctively realign your priorities and thus your energy becomes a positive reinforcement, encouraging you to carry on and finish what you started.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you take a moment to ensure the path you are on is the one you want to be on. It makes a difference, and you will find that when your path aligns with your passion the determination to get there becomes that much greater.

Have a blessed, healthy and safe day all.

Daily BITUB- “Work Life”

I used to think the stories of doing something you love and also making a living out of it weren't true. Well it's true in that when we find a way to incorporate what we are passionate about into our work, then it ceases to be work. It becomes more than something you have to do, and becomes something you get to do. It becomes something you hold yourself accountable to. You want to be better today than you were yesterday. You are inspired by the opportunities that present themselves, the challenges that help you reach higher, and the lessons you grow from. As I've grown over the years I've seen my work life and my personal life merge. The values I hold dear and carry with me in my day to day interactions with friends, family, church are the same I get to have and uphold at work. God, faith, servant leadership, having a servant heart, trust, trusted advisors, integrity, commitment... Those have become ways of life rather than terms and good things to just say. They are character traits we look for in others, and we dedicate ourselves to creating that culture everywhere we go. Those beliefs are in our talks, our relationships, our work ethic and they are extremely intentional leadership experiences we hope to give and to get... And we are blessed to be in constant appreciation that we can.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you are in a place, or creating that place, where you are able to be who you are in all walks of life. That you have the courage to create it if you aren't, and trust that God will always find a way to put you where you need to be exactly at the moment you need to be there.

Have a blessed, healthy and safe day.

Daily BITUB- “Matters of the Conscience”

"In matters of conscience, stand like a rock."- John Maxwell

We will all run into those relationships where we are left wondering why people act the way they act. They say the right things to the right people, but their actions are not at all reflective of that. You want to trust them, but time and time again they let you down. The hard part is what do you do when you feel like it won't matter to speak up, speak out, call them out? This isn't a situation where you can simply walk away as their actions affect many. I've found myself standing right in the middle of this situation over and over. We have a tendency to pacify ourselves with the notion that real change is possible, but at some point even that feeling goes away as you realize they won't change. Yet, my conscience won't allow me to do nothing. The desire to do what is right matters. The passion to ensure we are all accountable matters. You have to be the voice when nobody else will be. You have non-negotiable values, principles, and personal guidelines that are called into play. If it matters then you ensure people know it does. It may be the fight of your life, but you know it's worth it. You know that the outcome, regardless of what it is, will leave you intact. It will leave you whole and a heart full because you didn't allow the easy road to compromise what is important to you. We need more people like that. We need more people willing to listen, to see, to act and to ensure that accountability and expectations are not just for a few, but for all, and it is our conscience that tells us we must fight to let that be known.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that if you find yourself in a moment where you must swim upstream you have the courage to know you can and you may be doing what others can't or simply are not willing to do.

Have a blessed, healthy, and safe day.

Daily BITUB- “Negativity”

Why give it power? Why spend your energy on it? This won't be the last time negativity presents itself on your journey. This isn't the first time. Remember that negativity only gets its power from us. If we give it our energy, if we put our focus there, if we give in to it then it will thrive. We underestimate ourselves. We don't give ourselves credit where it is due. We are powerful and influential. We have choices. We get to choose to be happy. We get to choose to spread joy. We get to choose to be a positive influence. We get to choose how every roadblock, setback, and hurdle affects us. What choice are you going to make? From the moment you wake up to the moment you lay your head down your perspective is yours. Your attitude is yours. Your values are yours. Your beliefs are yours. God gives us a path, but it's on us to walk it. We have His word, but it's on us to believe it. We have His truth, but it's on us to live it. We can't live our moments in a corner afraid of what negativity lies out there. We must find it within ourselves to go out and influence the outcome. Be our blessings. Create the good, the kind, and the positive in the world we all want to see.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is you give the day a chance to be all it can be. You allow your positive influence to impact the choices you make and the lives you are blessed to touch.

Have a blessed, safe and healthy day.

Daily BITUB- “Reinvent Continuously”

I love the term reinvent continuously. I came to understand what that meant more and more as we studied "The Serve Model" at my company. If you aren't familiar with it check it out. The "R" in the model is "Reinvent Continuously". That term has been at the forefront of my life the past year, as this past year of life has been very transformational for me. I've found myself needing, and wanting, to reinvent myself continuously throughout it as I've experienced things that have helped me find me. Things that have helped me understand and see things with more clarity than I ever have. I learned a lot about myself and others. I learned a lot about priorities and aligning them. I learned what it means to be intentional: intentional living, learning, working, growing. Intentional in my relationships. Intentional in my goals. Intentional in pursuing my calling, my path, my dreams. I found the importance of taking better care of my physical health... Eating better, exercising, drinking less. I learned about the importance of taking better care of my mental health... Studying, reading, being true to my feelings, emotions, thoughts, and doing my best to share them. I learned about the importance of taking better care of my spiritual self... Being open about my faith, sharing my values, living with those values as non-negotiable parts of me, talking to God, building a relationship with Him, understanding His role in my life and my acceptance that I want Him to have one. Right now, more than ever, I see where that intentionality has mattered in helping me get through some moments this past year. Moments that I wouldn't trade for anything and lessons I will never forget. As the past year of my life comes to a close, I give thanks to God for my blessings and for another opportunity, this year, to see where intentionally reinventing continuously takes me.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you all know how much you mean to me and how blessed we are to have relationships in our lives that simply make us want to be better.
Have a blessed, safe, and healthy week everyone.

Daily BITUB- “It’s going to get better.”

I wrote the passage below 9 years ago and had a similar post on Facebook 8 years ago. Here we are where the narrative seems to fit what is happening around us right now. I will say I have friends from all walks of life. I have friends of all races. I am listening to their stories, their thoughts, their opinions and sharing my own. There is a lot to be said and a lot to be heard. There is a lot to do. Thing is, as much as we want it to be better, it starts close to home. Starts at our doorstep. Starts with our voice, our community involvement, our values, our beliefs. It starts with what we teach our kids, how we hold ourselves accountable, how we treat each other, and how we act. It starts with us.

2011-
How many times have you heard, "It's going to get better." Well, it is only going to get better when you decide you are ready for it to be. Only when you make the choices necessary to make it better. Only when you move forward and commit to what you believe better to really be. Only when you realize that the negative in your life and around us doesn't need to be a permanent part of life. We control so much. Is it going to be better? That's up to you. That's up to us. No one else determines what it means to be in a better place, state of mind, position. No, that belongs to you. You have a responsibility to it. Your ability to influence the outcome. Your desire and passion to make it matter. Your beauty. Your blessings. Your faith. Your love for God and for all His children. Is it going to be better? I believe it is.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer is a prayer of peace, understanding, hope, truth. It is His prayer. It is our prayer. It is the prayer we were taught to say and one that always brings me comfort.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Daily BITUB- “Hope”

"Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier."- Colin Powell

Feeling like we are in a hopeless situation? There is no such thing. Hopelessness can only be if we allow ourselves to give up on our faith. Do you really believe that through God all is possible? Do you trust in your ability to persevere? Then how can anything be without hope? I get it. Things are not good. It's easy to be anxious, scared, hurt. There are so many questions of where we are and where we are headed. So much uncertainty. Even the strongest of faith can find themselves feeling completely defeated right now. I understand it happens because I've been in that place. I've been in that situation where I felt like there was nowhere to turn. I felt like I didn't want to live. I didn't care who that hurt. I didn't care about the aftermath of my actions. Yet somehow God reached me. Maybe it was my wife who wouldn't stop loving me. Maybe it was the memories of moments my parents refused to stop believing in me. Maybe it was just a feeling God had some plan for me. Though it was hard to see at first, I finally realized that things around me mattered, but it was me who refused to see it. It was me not paying attention to everything around me: the people, the support, the opportunities God was presenting me. I overlooked them, and in some cases abandoned them completely. I created that sense of hopelessness by giving up on the possibilities. That's happening to so many people right now. They see no end in site. They see no light. They don't realize their influence and power in moments like this. It's amazing once you sit and focus on the abundance of belief and blessings. All those hopeless feelings start to go away. You realize you can make a difference, be the difference, matter. Is it easy to do? No. Is it worth it? I believe it is. That realization brings light to those dark places. It's there we find resolve. The dead ends we thought we were at begin to reveal the bridges that we simply couldn't see before. Then the beauty of tomorrow takes shape and the promise of today provides the hope we've had all along. A hope that begins with us seeing what needs to be seen, hearing what must be heard, and no longer being idle, but acting on it together.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that we take a moment to pray for our country, our friends, our family, and everyone who needs prayer. There is hope for a better tomorrow and that hope starts with our faith in God and a trust in His everlasting light.

Have a blessed, healthy and safe day.

Daily BITUB- “Praying for Peace”

"Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else." (1 Thessalonians 5:15)

Yesterday someone asked me why I hadn't posted anything about George Floyd and the protests. I thought about it and said, "Honestly what can I say?" I am saddened and angry by what happened to George Floyd. It is wrong and it is unacceptable. I agree 100% with the protests as we must insist on change, but am saddened and angry by the looting and violence. Yes, I want to do more. I don't understand the hate that is happening. Yes, I'm scared for my friends who have to deal with this. Yes, I'm scared for our country and for our future. Yes, I'm worried for the good police officers as I have family who have dedicated their lives to law enforcement. Right now what I'm doing is what I can. Talking to others to understand. Reading facts not fiction. Listening to others to provide comfort. Praying. Praying for our country, for my friends, for my family, for guidance, for understanding, for peace. There is no one answer right now. Everyone has their thoughts and will relate to this on entirely different levels and go about it on a path they have to take. A path that everyone will travel differently, but we must travel it. A path that will have hate, emotion, fear, anger, pain, joy, tears, comfort, truth. I was raised by my parents to love everyone. It didn't matter where you were from, your color, your background. I grew up doing just that and continue to do it. My wife and I are raising our kids to do the same, and that won't change. Nobody will change that as it is what we believe. It is our values. So, why haven't I said anything? I'm praying. I'm giving this to God. I'm hoping for peaceful resolution. I'm praying for reform, for change, for hearts to be filled with a desire for that resolution. I'm asking God to hold us close and help us see what we need to see. I'm asking to feel more, give more, trust more. I'm asking for a way and for light. Right now, more than ever, we need to know we are all God's children. We all matter. We all feel, dream, love, want, need in our way, but it's a way. Nobody's way is better than another. I know that. I feel many know it. I feel others want to know it. So, I'll keep praying that somewhere and somehow we all simply come to know God has no favorites, as we are all EQUALLY His children.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you are paying attention to every opportunity you have to impact and influence what you control and what is around you... Your interactions, your family, your faith, your heart, your mind. May it be filled with the good God sees in each and every one of us.

Have a blessed, healthy and safe week everyone.
