Daily BITUB- “A Commitment To Our Verse”

"That you are here—that life exists and identity, That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse."- Walt Whitman

Our commitment to life has to be on-going. It's not something we turn on and off. It's not something we put on the shelf and go get when we want to. That commitment and dedication can't stop because life doesn't stop being lived. We have a role to play in our relationships at home, church, and work. We have to do our part, and do it all the time. We have things that must be done, things we want done, and things we need done. We have people counting on us, and some who just need us to be a part of their journey. It's not fair to hope or expect those around us to push and pull us along. Especially if we are not willing to do it with them. Life will create struggles and tests that can push us down. We don't have to make it worse by throwing in the towel. We need to be honest and open with ourselves about why we stay down there. Then ask the question if we are willing to get back up. Are we willing to let others help us get back up? Are we willing to keep our commitment to living life to its fullest? Those are choices that we have to make. Nobody is going to make them for us, and we shouldn't want them to. There is no finger to point. There is no one to blame. It's us. It's ok to pause and gather up strength. It's ok to pray for guidance and help. It's ok to ask for it. It will take longer to get up sometimes, but we have to accept that life and the world moves on with or without us. Understanding that might just help us get up, realize our place in this world and exactly what we want our verse to be.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is for happiness, growth, appreciation. For the days we've had and the one we are blessed to have today.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Feeling The Hard Stuff”

In a book I'm currently reading there is a chapter on letting yourself feel. Especially feeling the "hard stuff". It takes real courage to do that sometimes. To let go and realize what emotions you need to let out isn't easy. For years I would allow things to build up in me until I unloaded them. The price for that was high. I was often taking it out on anyone who was around me. People who didn't deserve it. Everything at the point of breaking would bother me and was magnified. I had this notion that I could keep it in and eventually it would go away. Well, it doesn't and rears its ugly head at the most inopportune times. Those negative emotions start to take over and you start to feel like nothing is good anymore. More than anything it was my lack of trust that kept me from sharing. It was a vulnerable state I refused to let myself into, and when I did I was angry at myself for letting it go so long. It was draining. The hardest part of it all was realizing how often I overlooked the support around me. My wife, my family, my mentors... It wasn't that I didn't trust them, it was this feeling I would let them down if they knew I hurt, felt fear, emotion, depression. A fear they wouldn't believe or trust in me. My thought was I could function enough to stay ahead of the emotions I desperately wanted to let out. That was until it caught up, which it always did. Over the years I've gotten better, but I still digress. I'm learning that servant leadership, having a servant heart, wanting to help others begins when we let the guard down long enough to allow others to do the same. Keeping those feelings in, giving that false sense of harmony, and pretending nothing bothers you actually doesn't allow you to ever have real relationships. Relationships where there is no judgment, only comfort, clarity, honesty, love. It's easier said than done, but as I've said often, I am a work in progress. We all should be. I share with you only to say that it's ok to feel, and in doing so you allow the door to swing both ways where maybe somebody has been waiting for it so they know they can too.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you have strength to share what you must. That if you are lost you let God find you. Let Him lead you where you want to be, and allow yourself to see those people in your life that want nothing more than to be there for you and with you.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “That Person”

I've been thinking about my future a lot lately. That usually starts with thinking about the past and where I thought I would be at this moment in time. Thinking about the journey I've been on, the twists and turns, the adversity, the successes, the joy and the pain. Thinking about milestones, setbacks, lessons. Thinking about my family, my heart, my faith. I read a post I wrote 6 years ago that said we are creatures of habit, until we aren't. When we stop pushing our dreams away we start seeing new paths, new adventures, new doors. We start listening to the people who are infinitely passionate about their day, because it is filled with things that fill their hearts. When you sit and talk with those people you don't hear problems, you hear solutions. You don't hear they quit, you hear how they found new ways to keep going. You hear story after story of overcoming, of stretching themselves, of raising their bar and pushing their limits. Then you realize, and reflect on, all those things that have mattered to you over the years and how you always found ways to succeed when those things were in play. How those people you listen to was you. There was nothing going to stop you. Nothing going to keep you from pushing forward. Nothing going to deter you. That person inside you is still there. That fearless, determined, passionate dreamer is there. You just have to reintroduce yourself to them. You have to dig deep and remember the feeling of commitment and drive. You have to remember why you started the journey, what your destination was going to be, and just how important it was for you to get there.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you take a moment to be your blessings. To realize who you can be. To once again take God's hand in faith and leap. Leap with the faith that no matter where you land God is there too.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy week everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Joy can move mountains.”

How much time is wasted on talking instead of doing? Are you making decisions, changes, movements in your life, but doing it on a small scale? Afraid that too big a move can hurt more than help? We all have mountains in front of us. It's that big one though... Our big mountain that makes us want to stay down instead of putting ourselves out there. What if you started making decisions that moved your mountain? What if you started having the conversations with people that you feel need to know where you are and where you want to go? You'll learn quickly who is interested in being a positive influence, supportive and who isn't. Over my career I've made decisions that impacted my life and my family. We moved 6 times and each time those decisions were made with a lot of soul searching, prayer, and support. In doing that my best mentors would always tell me to do what was best for me and my family. When I started thinking like that it made all other things moot points. They were my "why". When the decision isn't just about you, then you begin to understand how making choices impacts others, and why that matters. More importantly why you want it to matter. If you facing a tough decision, looking at making a significant life change, trying to find your "why", then start with your heart, who and what is in it, and what simply brings you joy. It is in that joy you often are your best self. Look at what the possibilities of those choices can be and envision why that is a place you want to be. Then decide if it is a journey worth taking. It may be a difficult road, it might be uncharted territory, it might put you out there, and it might be exactly the choice and opportunity you've been waiting for to move your big mountain.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you start to see your mountains as gifts. Know that God is always intentional in the things He places in our path. I've said it often, we don't climb mountains because we have to, we climb them because we can.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Solutions”

Have you tried to solve a problem over and over, but you just can't seem to find a solution? Before you know it you are spending all your energy on that one issue and your entire day is wasted with no resolution in sight. What if it isn't that you can't find a solution to your problem;  it's that maybe you aren't looking in the right place? Maybe it isn't a problem at all. Sometimes you have to take a step back and reassess the situation. I've been dealing with what I felt like was a problem, and it was exhausting trying to figure out what to do. So much that it started occupying space in my head all day and every day. It prevented me from focusing on the good around me. Then I stopped myself. I stopped looking at the situation as a negative and instead determined that I had an opportunity to reevaluate some things in my head and my life.I did a lot of praying, soul searching, and asking others for guidance. Then I started to look at it with new eyes and a different perspective that created an entirely new attitude. I essentially started the solution process over by taking the problem out of the equation. I removed the negative from it all, and a whole new set of solutions presented themselves. It's hard. Hard to see when we are stuck in that one place. How many of you out there are allowing one thing to keep you from all the possibilities beyond it? I'm not saying you ignore the problem, but maybe the answer is to look past it, but you won't let yourself get there. Lay it down and move on. Chances are you will find that there are more things to deal with. More situations that will bring you clarity, experience, resolution. In those we often find the answers to things we once thought we couldn't. We become better for it, and we quickly realize that once a problem is now our blessing.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is for God to give you guidance, wisdom and clarity. That you can lay down your burdens and problems and see that through Him will always be a solution.

Have a blessed, safe and healthy day all.

Daily BITUB- “Talk and Believe”

Sometimes we stand face to face with a situation that we simply aren't ready to confront, but we know we need to. Doubt, indecision and fear can create mountains that feel like they are insurmountable. Yet, we've climbed those mountains before. Each time a little higher, each time stronger, each time better for it. We've all tried to ignore situations. In our minds we think it will go away. I've learned the hard way that doing so starts to build up this anxiety and emotion inside you. Avoiding something won't make it go away and chances are it will show up when we least expect it. Think about past situations. The times you just handled what needed to be handled. You had the tough conversations, and you shared what needed to be shared. While in the moment it may seem like maybe it isn't the best thing; deep down you have this feeling that it is. Over time you know that it was. It puts all your cards on the table. It reveals the truth in a moment and the strength of the relationships you have built around you. It's comfort, it's transparency, it's honesty, it's trust, it's love for those that matter most to you. In the end what we often find is that we are stronger than we thought we could be, and that dealing with it helps give us direction for what we must do next. Sure, it's not always going to be clear or easy, but prayer helps. Asking for His wisdom, trusting in faith, giving yourself to Him, and believing that God will guide you matters. In that, we often find ourselves saying and doing exactly what must be said and done exactly at the moment God had intended for us to.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that if you are holding on to something that you need to unload then you have the courage and the faith in God's wisdom to guide you. Guide you so that you may lay it down and move forward in faith, in love, in hope.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “A Life Fulfilled”

Are you taking charge of your life? Why not? Is it because you have been allowing people and things around you to dictate your next move? Is it because you think you can't? Maybe you've been let down, disappointed, lost. Maybe some choices you've made didn't work out. Maybe you are in a place you have been stuck in for a long time. Ok, so now you get to change that. Now you get to make your next move. After all you are the one responsible for the direction it has gone so far, and now you get to determine where it will go. Don't allow others to dictate the pace, place or how you will live. If you have been doing that stop it. Yes, you can stop it. Live your life and find the beauty in what that means. Live a life that matters to you. Hold yourself accountable for every choice. Once you do that you will understand no matter the circumstance if your choices brought you here then your next one can take you from here. You can go wherever you will allow yourself to go. So, where do you want to go? Remember that some blessings will take work. They will take effort and nurturing to blossom into the full potential of what they can be. Every thing begins somewhere and with someone. So, why not make it start with you, with your relationship with God, your desire to do what you dream, the people that matter most to you, and the extraordinary possibilities that exist in loving and living life to the fullest. For a life fulfilled is truly a life that fills your heart with the things that allow you to give back to the world your full potential of only what you are capable of giving it.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer to today is that you are able to take charge of your journey and fulfill your purpose. A purpose that no doubt, filled with love, will bring joy to those around you.

Have a blessed, healthy, and safe day all,

Daily BITUB- “Purpose and Passion”

"Passion is your joy, it is the essence of who you are. You have to unwrap it and find it."- Jackie St. Onge

I have always believed that purpose drives passion. You won't find satisfaction if you are not living life to the potential you are capable of. It takes work. It takes commitment. It takes doing things you may not have believed you ever would. You have to roll up your sleeves and get after it. You have to realize you can always get better. You can always learn more, do more, give more, be more. You have to stay determined. If you aren't feeling it, then maybe it isn't for you. Maybe you have yet to find your calling because you aren't allowing yourself to listen. It's not about money, other's idea of success, other's dreams. It's about searching for and being open enough to find your true authentic self. Though, not everyone is willing to seek out their true self. Fear, worry, excuses of time, money, circumstances are way easier to talk about then chasing after dreams that might find you pushing yourself beyond limits you self created. You might have to step out into a place you've always been afraid of. You might have stability right now. You might be "ok" with your present situation. If that's you, it is ok. If you are sitting thinking that settling will catch up, chances are it will. If you are scared others might question your choice to chase that wild dream, you might be surprised by how many of your closest people already know you are destined for it. It's never too late to start making your dream a reality. Never too late to chase your passion. That fire, once lit, isn't going to go out unless you put it out. Be your passion. Chances are it's there you are at your best. Deep down you already know that though. You already know that your purpose is your passion.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you listen to what is in your heart. You pray for courage, strength, and clarity in where you are and where God wants you to be.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Blessed Courage”

Remember that everything that can be won can also be lost. That doesn't mean you back down. It doesn't mean you shouldn't try. It doesn't mean you shouldn't push yourself. It doesn't mean you shouldn't prepare, experience, and fight for those things that matter to you. All the good, all the mountains to climb, all the moments we get to overcome start with the challenge and the courage to accept that challenge. They start with that choice to back down or to step up. While the road may be riddled with obstacles, we must trust in our ability to maneuver through them as we have many times before. All our blessings started somewhere. Our greatest achievements didn't happen by chance. Our moments of success couldn't have been unless we put ourselves in that moment, we put ourselves in a position to succeed, and we put our faith in the possibility of what could be. Win or lose remember the victory, the blessing, will always be in our ability to have the opportunity to try.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you have the courage to do all those things you set out to do. Have faith in the opportunities and be blessed to have them.

Have a safe, healthy and blessed week all.

Daily BITUB- “September 11”

I posted this last year, and I post it again this year. As the feeling won't change. Still praying and will always remember.

Today I'm simply going to pause and send up prayers in remembrance of September 11th. There are still many lives affected, still hurt, still confusion, fear, and doubt. I remember I was stranded in NC on business and thinking about my family. I was wanting to be home and afraid what I would feel when I was able to fly again. I remember that because it is a reminder that we mustn't take things for granted. Since then I've taken thousands of trips. I don't think about the bad, but I do my best to embrace the opportunities to tell my wife, my kids, my family I love them. I give thanks to God I can and appreciate the many blessings that I have missed. There are no promises that tomorrow will come, but you can promise yourself that as busy as you get, as wrapped up in the days that don't go right, that when you can't see the good you take pause to remember the moments where everything was beautifully blessed. You take a moment to remember those times where everything was as you once prayed for, that you simply tell those that matter they do, and you give all glory and praise to God for He is, and always shall be, good.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for today is for all those who are still searching for faith that they may find some peace through all of us who are praying and lending them all the faith we can as they search for theirs.

We will never forget.

Have a blessed, safe and healthy weekend all.

Daily BITUB- “Purpose”

It is funny how we find ourselves questioning God and His plan. Now, we don't question it when things are going right. We are solid in our faith and give all glory to God when things are going our way, but the minute it doesn't we go right back to questioning His purpose. I told someone yesterday how good things were. Then out of nowhere something unexpected happened and there I was frustrated. I felt angry, disappointed and let down. I started to ask myself... Was what happened God's fault? Did He make decisions for me? That is a hard thing to accept sometimes and we are quick to sit back and allow our frustration to cloud all the good going on around us. Sometimes we simply have an inability to see the big picture. We get caught up and lost in the moments that weren't part of our plan and we completely forget how great things were just a while ago. At the time I couldn't make sense of it, but then it dawned on me that many things don't until God reveals the master plan. Be it in our relationships, our job, school, whatever it is if we truly trust that God is in control then we can begin to once again take control ourselves. Our emotions, our joy, our good, our blessings… We control the ability to either be a part of it or to focus ourselves on things we don't control, things that bring negativity into our world, and situations we should simply acknowledge and move on. Most of which are mere inconveniences when we truly think about it. When we don't we choose to stop acknowledging God's ever lasting presence in our lives. We stop leaning and trusting in our faith. We stop believing that God truly has a purpose for us all… "And we know that all things work out for the good to those who love God, those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you remember that in good and bad times God is still ever present. All His Grace is good, and it is up to us to trust in that, to have faith that He sees the big picture even when we don't.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day all.

Daily BITUB- “Dissatisfaction”

If you are dissatisfied with how things are going then you first have to stop pointing fingers. More times than not I have pushed the blame of things that have happened to me on to others. I was convinced they were the reason I was having a horrible time of things, and nobody was going to change my mind. It is hard to realize that our circumstances are not a product of what others have done to us. It is a byproduct of the things we have done to ourselves, or the things we didn't do. If you are willing to invest in the change needed to influence the outcome then you had better start with yourself. I personally was completely opposed to that notion. I wasn't going to invest in myself because I expected people to take me for who I was or they could move on. People did just that. They moved on because why would they put themselves in a place where the effort they were putting in was not being reciprocated. If you know me, you know I love Rocky. One of the best, of many quotes, from his movies is, "If you know what you are worth, then go out and get what you are worth". Let that sink in for a moment. Do you know what you are worth? Are you willing to put in the mental, physical, and spiritual workout needed to reach beyond that place where you blame others for the shortfalls and pitfalls that everyone experiences? Most people aren't getting things handed out to them, they go out and make things happen. They don't feel they deserve anything, they want to feel good about earning it and they are confident they can. Confident and honest with themselves enough that the only finger they are pointing is back at themselves.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow your dissatisfaction to fire you up enough to believe that through God all is possible. Those possibilities exist for all of us, but as God provides us the way, we must be willing to do our part to walk it, talk it and be it.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day all.

Daily BITUB- “Empower Yourself”

Are you empowering yourself to make decisions that are in your best interest? So many times we allow ourselves to settle for something that isn't a part of the plan. We get caught up in the immediate and instant gratification and lose sight of the long term goal. When we get in that cycle it is vicious on our psyche. We can't figure out why we live a life of ups and downs and instability. We are unmotivated and unmoved to power through adversity because we conditioned ourselves to think there is nothing better than short term happiness. We think there is nothing better, and we thrust ourselves into one bad relationship, job, scenario after another. We build unsustainable foundations that crumble when things pile up on our shoulders. We stop believing in the dreams we set out to accomplish. We stop challenging the norm. We live in our comfort zone afraid to push for fear we will end up worse off. We stop letting our personal attributes shine and find ourselves wrapped up in priorities that really aren't ours. It's a scary proposition to trust our gut sometimes. Even scarier to let our instinct drive us. Yet it is that raw emotional intelligence that can propel us into a level we didn't even know we had.  We all have a natural desire to do and be more, but some push it down and refuse to let the natural instinct to excel out. You have to stop being your worst enemy. Stop avoiding the challenge, and stop settling. Nobody will do it for you. Nobody will appreciate you if you aren't willing to step up, appreciate yourself, and earn the opportunity to be in a place to be appreciated. You have to inspire yourself. You have to be willing to motivate yourself. You have to want to put yourself out there. By doing so you absolutely empower yourself to start making those decisions that make you everything you dream, believe, and know you can be.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you give yourself a chance. You believe that you are worthy of the good, the opportunities, the beauty that all God's gift of life has to offer.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day all.

Daily BITUB- “Fail Forward”

How often have we quit before we even tried? I think back on how many things I could of, should of, would of done… But I didn't. There was always something or someone to blame. Always an easy way out and a finger to be pointed. Countless excuses about my environment, my money situation, my health. Even more excuses about not having time because I had other things I supposedly had to do. Amazing how we are so capable of creating walls to keep ourself in and we pretend it is really to keep others out. After all if we stay within our comfort zone we don't have to risk making bad choices. Though I have found that most of my bad choices taught me hard lessons. Looking back, they really weren't bad choices at all. They were necessary pieces of the big picture that helped me grow. I once wrote, "I have scars that are impossible to erase". I spent many years trying to erase them until I understood the importance of embracing them instead. I have asked myself if I really do believe that even in our darkest moments there are blessings. Sometimes I do, others time I digress, and it takes me a moment of reflection to see there were blessings. Some have taken years to really see, but they were there. In my fear, in my hurt, in my confusion, in my doubt I have found strength I don't believe I would have had I not faced those emotions. It is in that adversity that we find just how strong we are. We find how important our faith is and if we really do trust in it. I once read a quote by Dr. John Izzo who said, "Failure it appears is not the regret that haunts most people; it is the choice not to risk failure at all." Today, I may fail, but I will fail forward. I will be better for it, and I will trust that God has a plan as He always has. It may be today, tomorrow, or many years from now, but I am confident that I will once again understand and find the blessings in the lessons.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you trust in faith. That you realize in every opportunity there are lessons to be learned and good to be found. It is not enough to want to go with God, we must be willing to grow with Him.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “That Feeling”

"If you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don't have to be pushed. The vision pulls you." -Steve Jobs

It's that initial feeling. It's at its peak when it hits you. You see the vision and it is clear. It draws the best from you. It's when you first decide you will chase that dream. When you make the choice that you have to leave a toxic relationship and step out into uncharted territory. When you raise the bar. When you commit to being a better you. When you stop making excuses and stop settling. When you are focused on finding the good. When you take the road less traveled and then set the pace. It's that initial feeling you have of pure determination. When the fear in you is not enough to convince you to turn back. It's this moment that is the catalyst for the fire that is waiting to burn inside you. It's in your heart. It's part of you and you know it's no longer a simple want, but a need. A need to live the life you know you can. A need to appreciate the opportunity to be inspired and to push back the doubt. A need to give yourself to this moment and go beyond the limits you have been hiding behind far too long. Now, right here, is it. There is no better time. You know it. You feel it. You want to influence your path, build bridges, climb walls, be your blessings... Then let's go.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you trust yourself enough to know that you are capable of achieving everything you put all of you into. Don't hold back. Gather up your faith and leap.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day everyone.

Daily BITUB- “Memories and Smiles”

I often think how much my grandparents influenced who I am. Their influence resonates in my mannerisms, my values, my beliefs, my kids, our traditions, and so much more. At the time I couldn't have imagined just how much the littlest things would spark the biggest memories. The food they cooked, the habits they had, the games we played. The way they brought us all together and held us tight. The smell of coffee puts me at a table with my Grandma Helen. The smell of a fireplace puts me in front of a heater with my Grandma Connie. Reading words of wisdom puts me in the family room with my Grandpa Bob. The long talks, laughter, cards, cold beer and Old Charter puts me at the poker table with my Gpa Gene. We might take those moments for granted when we are in them, and then we miss them when we aren't able to do them anymore. Yet, there are no regrets for moments we made matter, memories we hold dear, and stories we get to share with friends, family, our children, and anyone who will listen that keeps the legacy of them alive and well. My wife once recorded my Gpa telling a story of how he met my Grandma. He told that story several times, but each time there was something new he remembered. It was such a sight to see him light up and reminisce. While I miss the stories they all told I've learned through them the importance of making my own. To take time to listen to my parent's memories, my kids stories about school, my wife's excitement about her dreams, my coworkers passion about their goals, and my families memories they have about those that have passed. My cousin Jonathon, who passed away from cancer, called me one time when I lived in Georgia. I was sitting in my office late and he asked me to tell him a story about he and I that made me smile. I can't share that story here because it's not appropriate, as most of our stories weren't, but even now as I think of it I'm smiling. As I think of my grandparents, I'm smiling. That's what we get to hold on to. If you are blessed to still have the opportunity to make more moments, then don't put it off. Go make your moments memories. Listen to the stories, pay attention to the details, take the trips, play the games, smell the roses... and remember that feeling. Remember it for those times you simply need to take a breath, close your eyes, and smile.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you are able to cherish the memories, give thanks for the ones you are still making, and that you find comfort in knowing those that have passed had memories of you that made them smile too.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy day all.
