Daily BITUB- “Life Lessons”

Life can change in an instant.  Experiences can redefine our priorities and can help us adjust to what really matters.  It's our perception of things though that really defines how we maneuver through events.  We can experience things together, but that same event can bring different emotions to different people.  Our dreams and our pursuit of those dreams lead us in directions that can be painful at times and joyous at other times. However, we are blessed in all our pursuits because we are able to do just that - pursue them.  There are those moments you come to realize the type of person you are.  Every step of the way provides a lesson that enlightens us to what it will take to be better and what we as individuals have the strength to endure.  Life is not just about lessons though.  It is about living, experiencing and growing through those lessons.  It is about taking things away from each of those steps and using them when God blesses us with the next opportunity to experience whatever life has in store.

Daily BITUB- “Develop”

Developing is accepting the areas we must improve and taking notice of the things that do not benefit our progression. It's being open enough to face our challenges with the understanding that we may have created them. Some things you have to set down and move on from. Some things you have to fix and other things will need a complete overhaul. Then there are those things you know will be challenging. You know it will be an uphill battle, but it's important to you. It matters, and because it does, you fight for it! We must utilize things we may have forgotten and empower ourselves to move beyond any limitations that have been set by others or ourselves. It's time! Stand strong! Rely on your foundation and take comfort in your values! Trust your ability to stare adversity down and to overcome it! You can, you will, and most of all, remember there are times you already have!

Don't tell people what you are going to do.  Show them! Listen to what you are saying and let your words initiate a call to action! It's easy to say how and what, but accomplishing sends a message that you are committed and determined to reach your goals! Overcoming the negativity and overstepping the boundaries inspires others and challenges those who say you can't to reach within and try themselves.  Your desire and your passion for achieving becomes part of others as they build confidence in their own foundation and you strengthen yours. Create the standard and raise the bar, starting with your own expectations! Act! Move! Achieve! Have faith and remember through God all is possible! So go ahead and be what you've always said you would be!  Not because you think you can but because you know you will!

Daily BITUB- “Ask Yourself”

What do you value?  What is important to you?  What do you believe in?  Those are questions you should ask yourself often.  Priorities change.  What matters today may not be front and center tomorrow.  As we grow and experience our perspective on things may change.  We may see the same things, but look at it entirely different because we know more than we did the first time we experienced it.  That's part of evolving and it's ongoing.  It's a constant and part of living life.  You can get complacent if you allow yourself to settle for less, but if you know you believe in something, if you know it matters to you, then go after it.  Change your thought process and reevaluate your course as needed.  Most of all don't waiver from what you know is right.  Don't walk away from something that is important to you.  Don't give in because it's hard or because it's not the most popular of ideas.  That's why we ask ourselves what we value, what's important, what we believe in.  We do it so we know that those are things that matter in as much as we allow them to matter.  Then we can gather up our blessings, stand strong on the foundation of experiences past, hold tight to our faith, and leap.

Daily BITUB- “Through it all!”

Why me?  Why now?  Why can't a catch a break?  Why can't I just be happy?  What's God's plan for me?  Yesterday I sat with someone who asked me those very questions.  I told them that I've asked those questions myself and try as I might not to I find myself asking them time and time again.  Despite the fact that God always pulls me through.  Despite that no matter how hard it's been here I am.  Our human nature often finds us questioning ourselves.  It's so much easier to believe the bad stuff than it is to have faith the good will come.  There is no silver bullet, there are no promises, there is no advice to offer...  Only prayer.  Only faith.  Only belief that laying our worries before God is the answer.  I've been there.  I've told myself that God won't get me through this one, and then He did.  Not because I sat there and waited, but because I believed that He would help me.  I trusted that if I used the many blessings around me I would be ok.  Maybe it didn't go as I had planned, but doing nothing could have never been the plan.  So, you do something.  You take the moment and you influence it.  You bring your strength to the forefront and you gather up all your experiences, good and bad, and you press on.  You press on because you know God will be there, through it all, hands out ready to help you realize you are exactly where He intends for you to be.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Daily BITUB- “Our Cross”

Whatever cross God chooses is the one we carry. If you are feeling confused, scared, lost, hurt, then look no further than God.  Listen to what He is telling you.  Listen and pay attention to what He is putting before you.  When we are at our weakest that's when we must lean on the strength of our faith!  The path we are on takes its twists and turns, but it's that faith that helps us see it's still our path! It is the inspiration of experiences past that illuminates those dark moments we must travel. It's realization that our true selves have a power that we might never need, but when we do it's there!  Remember that your heart knows what it needs to thrive, your mind knows what it will take to achieve it, and your soul guides you by awakening the instincts of the many blessings God has given you throughout your life. The cross we bear is simply God's way of showing us that it's our faith in Him that will allow us to see His faith in us.

Life's going to happen. 

It's going to happen and there are going to be things we don't like.  It's going to happen and we are going to question everything and everyone.  It's going to happen and we are either going to throw in the towel or go in for another round.  It's going to happen and we are either going to accept the circumstance or influence the outcome.  It's going to happen and we are either going to see the negative or realize we can be the positive.  It's going to happen and we will decide what exactly we want to do with this gift from God.  It's going to happen and we must make choices to place our focus on those things that matter most or allow things to distract us from our plans, goals and dreams. It's going to happen with or without us.  It's going to happen every day, unfolding into opportunity, possibility, and blessings, and only we can allow ourselves to be a part of it.  It's going to happen with each new sunrise and reflections of what we've accomplished at each sunset. It's going to happen and we will either be active participants or not.

 Life's going to happen.

If not you, then who?

If you are looking for accountability, for responsibility, for someone to take charge of the situation don't look far.  Why can't it be you?  Why shouldn't it be you?  Hold yourself to higher standards.  Take ownership of your responsibilities.  Be someone others can depend on.  If not you, then who?  Why not be the one people turn to when they need help?  Why not be the person willing to do more than just enough?  Why not go above and beyond?  Do what's unexpected!  Set yourself apart.  Be accountable and own progression.  Own it, be, and push it.  If not you, then who?  I see people exceed limitations every day.  They do more than they believed they could because they were put in situations where they had to.  Some people will back down from that.  Some people will hide from it.  Some will push it on to others.  Then there are those willing to jump right in.  Those willing to roll up the sleeves and get in the game.  Those willing to take the good and the bad and be better for it.  Those willing to use their experience to help others grow.  Which one are you?  Which one do you want to be?

Daily BITUB- “Someday”

No one is going to open the doors for you.  No one is going to push you through them.  No one is going to smooth the path out so it's easier for you.  That's not how it works.  Opportunity may knock, but it's up to you to answer.  It's up to you to do the things necessary to open doors, to get yourself through to the other side and to make your moments impactful.  There will always be a "someday" that lets you off the hook.  Do you really want that though?  Do you really want to just get by or do you want to influence your life in a way that makes you raise the bar?  Don't you want to be better?  Don't you want to learn something new?  Don't you want to experience life and all it's meant to be?  There are many choices you get to make daily.  You can be the person that creates doors to open.  You can be the person that appreciates that while God has us on a path it's up to us to walk it each and every day!  You can wait, or you can act! It's up to you, and if it's up to you then what are you waiting for? Make "someday", today!

Daily BITUB- “Purpose”

You have a purpose.  You have passion. You just can't see it anymore.  So, where do you start?  Take away all the unnecessary.  Remove the clutter, the distractions, the things that take your attention away from the task at hand.  It's noise.  It's a smoke screen.  It can consume you if you let it.  That is the key.  If YOU let it.  You are more in control than you think.  You want to be positive, you want to see the good in a situation, you want to be optimistic, then go ahead!  Try as you might there will be those you come face to face with who are completely the opposite.  Why let them influence your perspective?  Why not influence theirs?  Why not simply ignore them and carry on with your plan, your goals, your dreams?  It isn't easy, but it's worth it!  It's worth it because it matters.  It matters because you decided long ago it did.  Don't let anyone steal your light.  The brighter you shine the harder it is for those shadows to exist.  So take away all the unnecessary, focus on what you need now to get to where you want to go, and live with purpose.  Your purpose!  In fact, live on purpose, and let your purpose drive your passion.

Today is going to be the day!  You've been waiting for it.  You've planned, you've organized, you've worked up the courage you need.  You are ready!  That is, until something or someone throws a kink in your plan.  Now what?  Don't they know today was your day?  That's the big decision you must make.  Now what?  You can allow that to deter you, allow it to stop you in your tracks, or you can push on!  You can simply decide that you are capable of adapting.  You are capable of changing your thoughts, readjusting a few things, and finishing what you started.  It's important to you, isn't it?  If it wasn't, you wouldn't have planned in the first place.  So, while things don't go as planned, don't let it change the plan!  After all, today is the day.  Today is your day!

Daily BITUB- “Deal with it!”

You can't change what was.  You can't go back and undo things you've done.  There is no rewind button that will make it all go away.  Try as you might to forget it, you won't until you deal with it.  Yes, you deal with it!   You look at what you've learned, and you take away from it things that help you grow.  It's part of realizing we can't undo anything we simply need to try again.  Try again a little wiser, a little more experienced, and better for it.  It doesn't mean you'll get it right this time, but chances are you'll be that much closer to it.  It's how we build our character.  How we make memories.  How we create moments to draw from later in life.  It's how we capture things we can share with our children and pass down to them in hope they won't make the same mistakes we did.  It's how you take life and you live it.  You appreciate everything from the bad to the good.  You appreciate the beauty that is in each new day.  You appreciate the lessons life provides along the path God has us on.  You realize the blessing is not changing what was, but in being able to influence what can be.

Daily BITUB- “No Limitations”

We get complacent.  We accept that this is all there can be, and we settle in to that comfort zone.  There we wait patiently for something to happen.  We kind of hope nothing really does.  We gave up on that dream we had a long time ago.  We know it's too much work, so why do it?  Besides, nobody is going to get why we would want to do it anyway.  It's a story all too often heard, said, lived.  Often times the only person holding you back is you.  You don't need someone to give you permission to chase down your dreams.  You don't need reassurance it's even a dream you should be chasing...  it's your dream!  You may be content, but going after more doesn't mean you don't appreciate what you have.  In fact, it's understanding what you do have that allows you to know you can go after more.  There are no unrealistic dreams, there are only unrealistic limitations.  Limitations we create.  Limitations we allow to exist in our lives.  Limitations only we can overcome!  If you know what you want, then go get it.  If you know it's important to you, then pursue it!  If you are waiting for the right moment, then create the right moment.  It's all in your hands.  It's in your commitment to yourself that while you appreciate your blessings, you are blessed to be able to do more, be more and Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU!

Daily BITUB- “Plan with God”

Go ahead and plan.  Look at the statistics.  Study the trends.  Look at the probability. Understand the pros and cons.  Work with others, talk it out, identify the roles and responsibilities.  However, don't forget to pay attention to what's in your heart.  Don't discount what you are feeling or your past experiences.  Don't overlook the passion you feel for what you do.  Don't dismiss the commitments that go with that planning.  And most of all, don't forget to pray for guidance, for understanding, for strength.  Allow God to be with you in all you do.  Trust in Him as you go into the execution stage of your plan.  Let Him encompass all aspects of what, why and how you do things.  If you aren't sure what comes next, if you hit a dead end, then stop.  Stop, b look around and go to where God is calling you to be.  Go to where He resides.  Go with the faith that with Him you are where you are supposed to be.  After all, "the mind of man plans his way, but God directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

Daily BITUB- “Affirmation and Accountability”

"How much you can take and keep moving forward!  That how winning is done!"- Rocky 

As I grow older the more I understand the lessons I've learned.  I remember many times I felt frustrated with my leader because he/she would push me.  Those same leaders became mentors over the years.  They are mentors throughout my career and my life that still guide me today.  People I would do anything for because they wanted to win.  They understood when it was necessary to comfort and guide me through situations. More importantly, they knew when to say get it together and execute.  Stop pointing fingers, stop making excuses, and win.  Win because you know how, win because you want it, win because you believe there is always a way.  I believe that fire is in all of us, but we have to want to ignite it.  They never made me do anything.  Never insisted, demanded, or lit that fire for me. They simply nourished the desire, gave clarity in moments I was lost, and gave me the confidence, through accountability, to do what I knew I could.  You must have that.  A balance of affirmation and accountability.  That was and has been the biggest lesson of all.

Words of encouragement go a long way.  Even the people who you think don't need it, do.  Those words can change perspective.  They can motivate someone to keep pushing.  They can help someone know they have support.  They can pick someone up who has stumbled.  They can give someone the strength to overcome their fears.  They can push someone over that wall.  The spirit needs that nourishment sometimes!  We all need a recharge, and the power of a positive word can mean the difference for someone who is ready to give up.  Don't let the moment get by you.  Don't overlook those people around you that need something extra today.  Don't miss the opportunity to be a positive influence in someone's life.  After all, you may just come to find that moment where it's you that needs those words of encouragement.  In a world where there is so much bad, every chance you get to be the good, you should.

Daily BITUB- “Balance”

"Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is my portion." Proverbs 30:8

Over the years I've realized how easy it is to want too much.  We want more money, we want more time, we want better health, we want better relationships, we want to do better at work.  We push it to extremes sometimes in terms of our wants, but we fail to realize our role in achieving those things.  We also miss the balance of it all.  I've been there myself.  I want to spend instead of save.  I want to eat fast food more than I want to be healthy.  I want to sleep late rather than be productive.  That balance is on us.  The responsibility of wanting vs needing is on us.  We have to make the choices necessary to determine what matters most to us and to avoid those extremes.  Life is full of opportunities to balance out our priorities and ourselves.  It is filled with moments to give and take, to want too much and expect too little, to be content and to push ourselves, to be firm and to be kind.  It is filled with choices that will determine just how blessed we are.  Blessed to find the beauty in life that makes us appreciate where we are, but never stop dreaming of where we can be.

Daily BITUB- “Walk it Anyway”

Don't let anyone tell you how to live life. No one truly can explain how to walk a certain path. They can provide insight, but no one knows you like you. Every individual is unique in how they progress through the journey. What motivates one may not motivate another. Priorities, wants and needs are different even when on the surface they may appear to be the same. As we move forward toward our destination, it's all the wonderful experiences along the way that nourish our spirit. The bad and the good provide levels of emotions that we tend to draw from later in life. They help us determine the things we hold tight and those we know to let go. Each level brings us closer to where we want to be and makes us stronger so that we can continue to reach for what we need to be. It's your path. It's the path God has given you. It's a gift.  You may not know the true reason behind the path you must take. You may not know it today, tomorrow, for years to come, but you walk anyway. You walk it with the faith that no matter where you go you will be going with God.

Daily BITUB- “Faith in the Road”

This popped up in my memories today from something I wrote 3 years ago. It fit perfectly for my current thoughts.  Maybe it fits for some of you today.  -DC

November 1, 2013:

Driving to work this morning the rain was so heavy I could barely see.  I had to detour because one of my exists was closed.  As I drove it, wondering where I was, I emerged right by my office.  Then I realized where this road started, that I passed it everyday and it just never occurred to me to even try it.  Funny how that works, when we get set in our ways we miss things.  Every road and every journey starts somewhere right?  Along those roads are twists, turns, bridges, pot holes, tunnels, detours and other people.  Such is the road we travel.  It started somewhere.  Tunnels where our light must shine, pot holes we must leap over in faith, twists and turns where hope keeps us balanced, bridges where we have been and the ones we are building to get to where we need to go, people that travel along with us and the detours we sometimes are forced to take.  The roads of life lead us in many directions.  Do we always need to take the road less traveled?  No we don't. While that is always an opportunity so is taking the roads traveled often, even ones we have already experienced, and making them better. Then there are the roads we often see, but never take.  Fear? Uncertainty? Maybe even a thought it will take us further from our destination.  Truth is, there is only one way to find out!  Faith says no matter what road we take the familiarity of our blessings and experiences will be there.  Faith tells us that God will be there as we start that road, while on that path, and when we reach our destination.  A destination where we will be exactly where God intended us to be at the moment we where supposed to be there.
