Daily BITUB- “Diversions”

The Trust Equation:  (The Trusted Advisor Fieldbook by Andrea Howe & Charles Green

Credibility + Reliability + Intimacy
—————————————————
               Self Orientation

Have you ever wanted to provide feedback to someone, but deep down you feared the repercussions? You just know that opening that door means you are probably going to be told all the wrong you are doing and all the reasons they aren't. Those diversions aren't going to help anyone. I love feedback. I listen, I take it in, I process it. Yes, I get defensive sometimes. Honestly, what I've learned from others being on the defensive is that it matters. It matters and they, I, know there is truth in what we are being told. The desire to divert the conversation is a reflex. Nobody wants to hear they aren't doing a good job. Nobody wants to feel like they are failing. Yet, perception is a reality that is hard to shake unless you are being intentional in what you do with the feedback. Why did you get the feedback? If you feel it isn't accurate then what can you do to change the perception back to the actual reality? How can you use it to simply be better? When giving feedback is it always negative? Are you encouraging rather than just tearing down? Are you offering solutions or just pointing out problems? People love people they know are going to give a real and honest look at things. They will listen to those people who they know are sincere. The value in intimacy is that it creates trust. Real relationships matter. The value in not being self oriented and ego driven is that people know that what you have to say is going to help them, and reciprocally they feel confident they can do the same for you. In that respect there is no need for diversions. Instead, the focus can be on continuous, valuable and intentional improvement.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you value those people in your life that you know, and trust, will tell you like it is and allow you to do the same.

Have a blessed, safe, and healthy weekend everyone.
