Daily BITUB- “Remember”

"Remember"

It's amazing what we remember when we need it most. I remember coffee with Grandma, and how there always seemed to be a fresh pot. I remember falling asleep next to GPa on his lunch break and not having to go to kindergarten that day.  I remember the way Grandpa laughed at my uncle's stories and how Grandma would say "stop it".  I remember Sunday breakfast at Grandma's with all the family after church. I remember GPa's parties. I remember watching the fireworks at the park and the whole town being there. I remember the anticipation of the prize at the end of my fishing pole during the church picnic.  I remember playing in the sandbox early Saturday mornings with my bro bro.  I remember sharing a room with my brother and missing it when we didn't. I remember wanting to always protect my sisters. I remember family dinners, playing together outside and laughing uncontrollably during family time. I remember Christmas hot chocolate.  I remember Church and trying to keep quiet, and my brother making me laugh (I remember the pinch on my leg from Pop all too well after that.) I remember playing in the mud. I remember the Christmas play.  I remember my teachers caring so much about everything at St. Mary's.  I remember vacations together as a family.  I remember golf on Saturdays with My Pop and bro- Even in 30 degree weather.  I remember the smell of pot roast.  I remember Grandma's eggs.  I remember GPa's beans.  I remember playing dominoes and "shoot the moon".  I remember those hugs and drying of tears.  I remember the secrets I told my Mom.  I remember the attention I got, if but for a moment, across a crowded room from my parents reassuring me. I remember "I do". I remember my wife telling me our family is growing. I remember watching her in pain giving us that family and wanting to take it away. I remember holding my daughter for the first time. I remember my son being lifted over the curtain and my wife and I crying tears of joy. So many more things I could list. You know I remember these things more often then the toys we got. The things that have broke, gone away, been forgotten.  I remember these things as it shapes, helps and sustains me now.  I remember these things as the pace of life sometimes finds me forgetting what is important and what will be remembered.  I remember so I slow down to make sure my kids will sit down one day and say, "I remember", and smile, feel and be comforted the way I am for the many memories that many of you bless me with every day.

Take a moment today and let your mind drift. You might just remember something that makes you smile, feel comfort, appreciate life, and be present in the moments today that you will remember tomorrow.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is for it simply to be blessed. That you find joy in the life you get to live, and comfort in the people that you live for.

Have a blessed day everyone.
