Daily BITUB- “Fitting In?”

"Fitting In?"

Day after day we are faced with the notion we must change who we are to fit in. It's a challenge for our kids as they grow up in a very social media centric time, but it's a challenge for us all the more you think about it. It's hard, but the more I see people embracing who they are, the more I see them excelling, inspiring, motivating, galvanizing, and thriving. We all have unique attributes that we bring to the table. We have gifts that God bestowed upon us for a reason. The more I explore that thought process the more I realize how conforming we are. We want approval, but at what cost? We want to fit in, but if losing our identity is the price we pay is it worth it? If that's what it takes are we in the right place, right job, around the right people? I remember sitting with my GPa on one particular occasion where he told me a story about how he refused to do something that went against who he was. Now he told that story in his way, which made it all the better. Such wisdom. Such clarity in the belief that you should never hold back your gifts to pacify a moment. When I speak to students I tell them to seek out authenticity. Seek out the real transparent and true people that life long friendships, mentorships, and partnerships come from. The ones who nurture who you are rather than try to change you. Now, some change is good. Tough love is needed in some situations. The hard part is being able to tell the difference, but true intimate trust allows you to know the difference. When we challenge the notion we don't fit, are we missing the reality that maybe we don't want to. Maybe, as Marianne Williamson wrote, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." My advice to others, and a reminder to myself today, is do not let yourself be in a position where you let your talents, strengths, skills, personality, or influence be measured.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer today is that you realize you are a beautiful and unique soul. God wants you to shine. So shine.

Have a blessed day everyone.
