Yesterday I spoke with someone about trust. They asked me, "how do you know you can trust someone?" Great question. I've always had issues truly allowing myself to trust people. That is a burden that can cause anxiety, doubt, and fear. It can damage relationships before they even start, and honestly isn't fair to people that we sometimes put our lack of trust in someone else on them. If you find yourself second guessing any part of a relationship then something isn't right. You must be loyal to your own gut feelings and that instinct you have cultivated over time. However, as I've grown older I realized just how important trusting and being trusted can be. That realization allowed me to let myself give others a chance. It still doesn't always workout though. I've allowed myself to trust someone only to be hurt, and that just happened recently. Yet, I refuse to allow that to creep into the other relationships I have in my life. It doesn't stop me from wanting to see the good in others as I have seen the potential of what a trusting relationship can be. It's made a world of difference and helped me create some real, lasting, and strong bonds in life, that honestly, I wouldn't be able to do the things I do without them. So, don't let yourself miss the opportunity to have that in your life again, now, or ever. It may take a lot of time. It may take a healing past. It may take a leap of faith.
How do you know you can trust someone?
You don't until you do, and when you do it is worth it and a beautiful thing.
