"If you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth." -Rocky
The past couple of weeks have been filled with a lot of great memories, emotional moments, work, phone calls, and travel. So, I took a moment off from writing to really think about the past year. I made life changing decisions at the end of 2020, and I was wondering how I really felt about it. I had challenges with my health, my faith, my desire to explore life in general. As I read people's resolutions I thought about what that really means. I saw people talking about the new person they would be, the new goals they would set, the new lives they would lead. I always encourage people to do what they must to be the person they want to be. Though, for me, I really kept going back to that Rocky quote. I really am not interested in being a new me, but rather a better me. I told myself, "Let's face it, in many regards, we aren't living up to the person we want to be, because we are too busy being a cog in someone else's dream." It sounds negative, but it's not. It was simply me being very honest with myself. Allowing excuses to riddle my journey, and letting myself off the hook as to why I wasn't chasing my dreams vigorously has to stop. If we are so wrapped up in creating a life rather than living it then what is the point? I often say to people they must do all they can to give more than they take, but fail to mention the importance of not letting people take so much there is nothing left for them, their families, friends, etc. My words for 2022 were going to be "transformational influence", but I felt that wasn't really what I was looking for. Do I want to transform myself into something I'm not? Do I want to transform others around me into something they are not meant to be? No, rather I'm understanding that influence starts with our ability to influence the things in our life that give us the most opportunities to be present in the moment. The moments we care deeply about so that we can encourage others to do the same. In essence it's understanding what we are worth. What's life worth to us? What's living it worth to us? What are our dreams and goals worth to us? Is it worth more than chasing someone else's dream? Is it worth missing a moment because you instead took a call or read a text thinking that it couldn't wait? Is it worth your health… mental, physical, spiritual, so much that you neglect yourself, and in turn neglect those that matter most to you? As 2022 gets underway I'm not promising myself anything. Instead I'm assessing what I believe I am worth. I am committed to serving others through an understanding that if we are not giving ourselves the opportunity to determine that worth then we are doing one another a disservice. If we settle, if we don't live our values, if we compromise our time, if we stop professing our faith, if we stop dreaming our dreams then we won't know. We won't let ourselves know. We won't stand up for what we know our worth to be. So, whatever you are choosing to do this year to be the you that you want to be, make sure in doing so you let it be known that you know what you are worth, and you intend to make 2022 the year that you go and get it.
And the rest of the quote…"But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!"
2022 : "Go get what you are worth."
Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is for a blessed year filled with possibility and the opportunities you create to simply be better than you were yesterday. May you make your moments matter.
Have a blessed week everyone
