"Forgiveness"
Yesterday I sat down with a friend to talk about some things that were on their mind. It was clear there was a bitterness and no desire to forgive someone they had an issue with. After talking through it I offered up my own shortcomings in being able to forgive people. That weight gets heavier and heavier the more we hold on to it. You have choices. Talk it out with that other person. Move on from it and let them know you did. Look at it and see your role in the situation and take accountability. You can't avoid it. You have to face it one way or another and lay it down. Easier said then done? Yes. Sometimes you do your part and the other party doesn't, but that's no longer on you. I know, from experience, that not forgiving someone doesn't just impact that relationship. It grows and can create difficulties in trusting others. It creates walls that keep us from moving forward. It pushes us back into thinking about the past rather than focusing on the future. The more we allow it to fester the more we are allowing it to influence our day, our mood, our character, our relationships. What if we were not allowed grace? Where would we be right now if throughout our lives people didn't forgive us for things we did? Just some things to think about. In forgiving we set ourselves free. The rest is up to them.
Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that if you are holding on to something that forgiveness will allow you to lay it down, you are able. Remember we all need grace. "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Have a blessed day everyone.
