Remember the darker it gets the easier it is to see the light, and the smallest of light can be seen in the darkest rooms. That's why allowing your light to shine matters so much. That's why the challenges, the adversity, the negative things and people find it hard to exist when your light makes it difficult to cast shadows. It won't always be easy to be positive. We all have our days, but allow yourself to take in those around you who want nothing more then to be your light on those days. God knows exactly when and where we need those blessings. Then, simply do your best to give that back when you can. Why not allow yourself the privilege of making someone's day, of being their smile, of opening their heart, of giving them hope and letting them feel your positive emotions and energy? It matters, and often it matters more than we actually may ever know. We can influence one another's lives by the smallest of moments. So, today why not take a moment and be someone's blessing?

What will you do this week?  

Learn something new? Share your thoughts with someone? Grow and experience?  Actually slow down long enough to enjoy your blessings? Give yourself credit for reaching that goal? Push yourself so that you can move closer to it? Smile more? Make someone's day? Thank someone for making yours? Laugh louder and longer?  Express yourself? Fight for something that matters to you?  Encourage someone to pursue their dream? Help someone find their way?  Tell those in your life how much they mean to you?  Pray for someone? Pray and thank God for the beauty in your life... For the journey, for the opportunities, for those special people, for giving you the possibility of tomorrow, for the privilege of experiencing the blessings in today? 

There are so many moments to simply do things we cherish, we need, we get to do.  

So, what will you do this week?

The last 10% of completing something you started is probably going to be the hardest.There in lies the problem as many times we are simply exhausted when we hit that last round of the fight. This is where conditioning ourselves comes in. Being prepared for the final push starts with the first one. Understanding the goal and planning accordingly is crucial to any task. Plan for fatigue, for setbacks, for doubt, for anxiety. Harness that positive energy you experience with every win along the way to get you through it. Remind yourself why you started this in the first place, and give yourself a chance. Often we sell ourselves short before we start, and as a result we don't visualize the potential of how far we can go. Especially in situations where the target seems to move farther away the closer we get. Is that a bad thing? It depends on the situation. I've reached a goal only to discover there was more to do. I've reached a wall only to realize there was a door I couldn't see when I started. A door to another level, a higher bar, another peak. If you are in that last 10% keep pushing. You got this. If you are just starting remember how determined you are right now and use it to refocus as you go. As we've all heard... Nothing worth having is going to be easy.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize it's worth it. Whatever you are fighting for, whatever you are striving to achieve, whatever you have in front of you... It's worth it.

Daily BITUB- “What did you learn?”

"I understand things I never thought I would and see things I never thought I could."- DC/2015 

I use to ask people what they learned today. I would almost always get an immediate answer. When I started asking people, "What will you do with what you learned today?"... Well, the answers didn't come so quick. Then the follow up question a few weeks later was often met with even more hesitation. We are quick to take an experience and apply, "I sure learned my lesson." Until we forget it. We forget it because when we are caught up in it as it happens we don't really do anything intentional to retain it. We miss the opportunity to make that moment a memory to use later. To take it and use it as part of building up who we are and why we do the things we do. To essentially understand that we simply do not want to experience that situation again. We also tend to think we must have an answer right now. We don't. It's not about just the experience, but how we process it. What were the takeaways? What and who did it impact? What is actionable? What was simply emotional? What comes next? Why didn't we like it? What did we really learn? Why wouldn't we want to be in that situation again? If we were how would we handle it this time?

 Process it. 

So, as you settle in tonight ask yourself what you will do with what you learned today. Then make a conscious and intentional decision to actually do it.

If you get your chance today will you be ready? It's not enough to just say you are. You must intentionally do things to better yourself. You must always be vested in your own self development.  Study more if you have to. Work harder if you have to. Stay later, get up earlier, push yourself, motivate your mind by being committed to reaching that peak.  Then, you have to believe. You have to believe in yourself, in your mission, in your moments, and that you can do more, be more, give more. I get it we get tired. We get weary. We run out of steam. That's ok. Rest and recharge, but don't give up. Be resilient and be confident that no matter what comes today you will be ok. You will not be alone. You have supporters, you have knowledge, you have experience, and you have faith. Faith that God is with you every step of the journey. So, walk in to today saying "yes" to the challenge. Saying "thank you" for the opportunity to be challenged, and for the blessing of another day to live life to the fullest.

Take the time to do things that remind you why you love life, why you push, why you are grateful. Then give thanks, gather up your blessings, and have the courage to carry on.

Wherever you want to go - Go. Whatever you want to do - Do it. Whoever you want to love - Love them. Whenever you want to dream - Dream. The only limitations in life are the ones we set. So, why set them? There are no unrealistic dreams only unrealistic limitations we put on ourselves. Be true to your vision and commit to your path. Set the moment in motion by being your blessings, by expressing your passion, by using your talents, by living your values and staying true to your priorities. Give yourself the chance to excel. Life is filled with opportunity, doorways to kick open, uncharted territory to explore. You have to be willing to take those unbelievable chances to reach your goals and dreams. Beyond limitations are where our wildest dreams exist. Take your passion and let that passion out. It is always present. Always there. It's the desire to do that unleashes that passion's full potential. So what are you waiting for?

Daily BITUB- “Relatable Influence”

I remember the first time I was blessed to speak to a group of students. I was in Shreveport and my heart was racing and my stomach was in knots. I was thinking who am I to be here? What if I say the wrong thing? What if nobody cares? I am sure not famous or have some great sport story to share. In my head I thought that's what these kids want. I sat in the corner on a bench and just tried to breathe. I thought about my mom and how she would always tell me to just be myself. I thought about what that meant and again just breathed. I honestly can't tell you what all I spoke about that day, but I do remember telling the group to remember that somewhere at some point we all will influence someone. That we will determine if that influence is a positive experience or not. I had one teacher tell me to never stop being relatable, and that what I said mattered.  I wasn't sure what that meant at the time, and maybe I don't entirely know what it means now. From that point on though, I would go on to speak at many schools, businesses, church groups and share my story. It has evolved over time as my story continues to evolve. My understanding of things past have changed as I have learned more about what a blessing really is, what lessons I had long forgotten meant, and how much we influence our journey. Not everyone will get us. Not everyone will need to hear our story. That doesn't mean you don't share it. One person is all it takes. One person who took something from you and it mattered. I encourage people to speak up and speak out. Someone may need that blessing today. You might just be someone's answered prayer. I spoke a few weeks ago, and that feeling of nervousness and the knots in my stomach we're still there. What I've come to realize is that those are signs it matters to me, and when I don't feel it, then it might be time to stop speaking. So, I pray that I never stop feeling it, and that somehow I am still relatable.

God gives us blessings. There isn't a day, a moment or an instance that those blessings aren't present. They are there in the darkest of times and there in the happiest of them. They give us a path and then they light the path with each step we take. They are in our family, in our children, in our person, in friends, in challenges, in successes. They are there when we least expect it and there when we need them most. The blessings of life don't go anywhere, but it's up to us to understand the significance of those blessings. To cherish them always. To notice the beauty in holding on to them even when the day doesn't goes as planned, and especially when it does. We mustn't overlook those days that things go right. Those are the moments we must remember to express gratitude for another day where things just worked out. So, no matter the circumstance, every opportunity to give thanks we should. Thanks to God for giving us lessons, experiences, moments that we remember when we are at our limits, facing adversity, fighting our fights, or simply enjoying life.

Feel like you are moving too fast?  Feel like you are in it alone? Take a step back.  Take it all in. You'll realize you are never alone. You are surrounded by blessings. Surrounded by God and His gifts. People who simply wait until you need them, and know exactly when you do. People who love you for you. People who care for you. People who push you, pull you and stand strong with you. People who quietly look to you to be an example. People who know you are able to do things no one can and try things no one will. They lend their faith, let you lean on their strength and help you move forward by bringing the hope of a beautiful tomorrow.  They help you see that you are surrounded by a light that resonates beyond you. A light that illuminates those paths you may overlook. You are never alone. Be true to you, open to God, share, be and appreciate the many gifts and blessings in your life just by slowing down long enough today to realize them.

Daily BITUB- “Extremes”

I have my ups and downs. I've worked hard to regulate my emotions over the years. I'm not always successful, and as a result I experience large swings of highs and lows because my tendency is to go to the extreme ends of those immediately. The emotional and physical drain that comes with that is daunting. I've found that focusing on the positives helps to ground me, but it's not always enough. There must be an intentional and direct focus on moving out of that extreme. Finding balance. We are powerful in our ability to pull ourselves down, but forget that we are just as powerful in our ability to pull ourselves up. We have done it many times. We tend to overlook our strength. We are so focused on the negative around us we forget about the times our positive energy resonated beyond us. We miss our ability to influence the outcome. We are in control of how we approach things, how we react, how we move over and through it. I know it's easier said than done, but understanding it can be done is strength in itself. There will always be valleys, but it's the peaks we must continue to strive for. The good that we create. The fight we have in our hearts. The walls we can tear down. The mountains that we will always have the blessing to climb if we simply choose to.

Everything we are blessed to have we must give thanks to God. We can give thanks in many ways, and each of us may have our own way of showing that appreciation. Through using our talents to enrich the lives of others. Through nurturing our skills by putting them into practice and working to enhance them. Through studying to perfect a craft. Through self development to understand more of what we can achieve. Through educating ourselves on the beliefs of others. Through acts of service to others. It can be as simple as holding a door, talking someone through a tough time, squeezing a hand to let someone know you are there. It can be through the many outlets of volunteering. It can be through sharing your faith when someone isn't able to have their own. It can be in a moment of prayer for someone that you know needs it. It can be a gesture that lets someone know you notice them. It can be a word of encouragement, of advice, of honesty. It can be a smile from across a room that instantly comforts someone you know needs that comfort. All of us possess something that we may give to others. It's a gift that God has bestowed upon us so that we may live a life full of opportunity to do all we can to make each other's life better... And in doing so we shall give thanks to God for these gifts.

There is so much happening around us. We want to influence the outcome. We want to make an impact. We want to hold steady and keep moving towards our destination. It's not easy though. Some days are simply harder than others. You want to change the world and make it better, but sometimes it's not about changing the world. It's about being a participant in the ever changing world and leaving your mark. It's about experiencing life at all levels of you. It's seeing that your day is filled with opportunity to be more, to witness the beauty around you and to influence the lives of those that cross your path. It's taking the day and walking in the sunshine, dancing in the rain, talking to your friends, listening to stories from your grandparents, holding your kids tighter, laughing with those you love, giving thanks to your parents for believing in you or just sitting and appreciating the choices you have to take it all in. It's taking the challenges of the moment and creating the experiences you need to carry on.  It's being true to who you know you are and not compromising to be something you aren't. It's closing your eyes and trusting that the light will shine through and those that you hold dear will be right there with you every step of your journey. You don't have to change the world. You just have to appreciate the beauty of God's gift and make sure that you don't let the world change you.

Take time to nurture your skills, goals, and talents. Take time to look at progression and digression. Look at what is enhancing your life and the lives of those in it. What is working? What is lacking in your plan? What is holding you back? You may have to even ask if someone is holding you back. Is that someone you? Are there things that you are allowing to steal your time? Things that create pockets of instant gratification that deter you from the long term investment in your ultimate goals and plans. It's easy to want, but not so easy to fulfill the needs that sustain us. We are surrounded by the lure of things that make us forget sometimes why we starting pushing ourselves in the first place. Yeah I get that maybe sitting down and reading and studying isn't what you enjoy. I get maybe eating better foods, changing an unhealthy lifestyle, putting more time into developing skills may not be appealing right now. Yet we don't often enjoy all the things that make us better in the long run. That is until we start to notice the value it can bring. The change in our focus, our attitude, our perspective, how we physically feel, mentally feel, spiritually feel. The growth in a moment of discipline and accountability to ourselves is immeasurable. You have to start. You have to keep it going. Take a moment today and just take inventory of what you have going on in your life. Life is simply too short not to live it well and live it fully.

We all have emotions. There are things that fire us up. Things that get us riled up. You hear it often that you have to control your emotions. You do, but don't suppress your feelings. Be aware of why you feel. Don't bury it. Don't hide those things that bring about the emotions in your life. It helps you determine the things that matter. It's ok to feel. It's ok to cry, laugh, hurt, be angry, love. Those aren't just words we say. Don't let the ease of saying them water down the feelings that come with them. You can carry your emotions with you into everything you do, just don't let them take over you. Don't let your emotions speak for you. Don't let them act for you. Control the moment. Channel that energy and allow yourself to motivate, inspire, drive, focus, push, and be reminded you why you do what you do. Use the emotion to clear away the things that deter you and keep you from pushing through things that hold you back. Let it show you what really is in your heart. We all have emotion. We all get to feel. Use it. Embrace it. Own it.

Daily BITUB- “A Stronger You”

How often do we go on the defensive when we are given feedback or even just asked a question? Our tendency is to push back instead of looking within. After all, we couldn't have done anything wrong. We all have areas of opportunity and what I've found over the years is egos, blaming, excuses have no room being in a place where people want to be better. Pointing fingers creates a smoke screen that clouds our ability to see the task at hand. A task that we can all benefit from. A task to look beyond ourselves at what truly matters. The goal, the dream, the commitment, the promise; whatever you are pursuing be blessed to receive guidance, coaching, lessons, and experience. Be open to taking it all in and investing in yourself and others. It's not about you, but about what you can provide to others. It's what being a servant leader means. To be of service is to realize what you can offer others and what they can offer you. We aren't perfect so we mustn't act like it. Pay attention to the people willing to support you by being honest with you about things they see that you may not. Sometimes we need someone who wants to help us get back on track when we get off it. It's ok to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is not a weakness. It is something that empowers others to know they matter in your life and gives them the ok to know they can be vulnerable with you. It is a real strength. It creates a stronger you. A stronger you that realizes that to be better you have to be willing to listen to the possibility of what better can be. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you seek out those willing to be a part of your journey. An honest, true, real part of it. May you find those blessings, and may you be willing to be that someone for others.

Daily BITUB- “Perspective and Perception”

Perspective and perception are powerful things. Every moment gives us an opportunity to determine how we will see it. Experience, our environment, the people involved all can influence what we see and what it can mean. Yet, often we can overlook the obvious that should matter most... Ourselves. What does it really mean to us? What role do we play in this moment? What is the significance? What do we see when we really look at all the pieces that make up that big picture? What perspective do we bring to this moment? I've heard perception is reality, but it is our perception that allows us to shape that reality. It is our focus on the day to day things that we deem important, necessary, and crucial to our lives that matters. Everyday we will choose the way we want to begin the day, we will determine how we take it on as things happen throughout it, and every night we get to assess exactly how we perceive we did. Perspective. If you are looking at life and wondering what you see, and if perception truly is reality, then make sure you see that God, faith, the ability to live our lives, the blessings within, the privilege of being a positive influence, the gift of feedback to be better, and the many opportunities to reach our goals and dreams are always present. Present if we allow them to be and present how we choose those things to be present in our lives.

Daily BITUB- “The Calm in The Storm”

Jesus replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. " (Matthew 8:26)

They say there is a quiet before the storm, and often we don't notice that blessing until the storm hits. Sometimes we hold ourselves back afraid we may cause the storm. When in reality try as we might to avoid them, storms will hit.  That is part of living life and experiencing the good and bad of it all. I have come to learn that despite those storms we still have the power to create calm in it. To find the eye. That eye where we get to catch our breath. Sometimes it is big and sometimes it is subtle. It's hard to notice  as it manifests itself in the form of a friend, a moment of peace, a reminder of the good in our lives. It's comfort, help, encouragement. Sometimes it is simply the quiet of prayer as we do our best to make sense of it all. Then there are the big moments where sometimes it takes losing the things we think we want so that we may find the things God knows we need. The only way out of that storm is through it, and through it is exactly where God, your faith, your strength, your family and friends, your prayer will be. With you every step of the way.  So, catch your breath if you are in that storm, gather your blessings and believe that you can and will get to the other side.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you know that in all things God will calm the storm if you allow it. Take notice of the beauty in your life. Give thanks is for the good. Know that this too shall pass.

How often do we chase dreams that aren't ours?  How often do we look to experience moments that don't belong to us? We are very convincing that the grass is greener everywhere but here. We sometimes even push ourselves into other people's dreams and abandon our own. We start to regret, to question, and to give in to the notion that where we are is not good enough. That's not true at all. At some point we come to realize that our dreams are enough. That where we are is where God intended us to be. Every choice, every move, every thought brought us to this place. It's here, if you want, that you can propel yourself into your next chapter. The one where you realize a potential you didn't know you had. There is no perfect time to start your journey towards what matters most to you. There are no limitations that aren't self inflicted. There is no boundary, no wall, no obstacle we can't overcome if we truly want to overcome it. Take a look at where you are. Look at the beauty of the place you are already standing on and use it to motivate, to inspire, to reassure you that you have blessings in your life that have carried you to this moment. Blessings, talents, gifts, dreams that make any grass you are standing on the greenest. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself to appreciate where you are. That you are where you should be and have all you need to do, to go, to be whatever and wherever you believe you can.

Daily BITUB- “Our Best Self”

I used to have this thought that I wanted more from people. It took me a long time to realize I wanted to do more for them, and that helped me to understand I really didn't want more from them. I wanted them to want more for themselves. Serving others often brings out the best in people. Helping them realize potential empowers them to push themselves, and we all know we are often harder on ourselves than anyone else can be. However, in our pursuit of service we must not forget the importance of our own personal mental, physical, and spiritual health. You can't neglect yourself. It does no good for anyone when you do. That may mean more rest, more exercise, quiet time, a hobby, a side hustle. Whatever it is, you have to make time. No excuses needed here. There is time for you to get yourself right. Chances are you are better for it, and you will be better for others. They will see your passion, your energy, your drive. You will become more focused on giving yourself to those things that fill your heart, and less to those things that simply fill your day. In our pursuit of service let us remember it is in our best moments when we are at our best self we are able to give the most... And we can continue to focus on simply giving more than we take. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself a moment to refocus, reenergize, and to renew yourself. We must strive to be mentally, physically, and spiritually fit. Some blessings will require heavy lifting.

Daily BITUB- “Understanding”

We are often presented with situations we can't fully understand. That doesn't mean we failed. It doesn't mean that we are wrong. It doesn't mean we aren't smart enough to get it. You have to be honest with the fact that maybe you don't want to get it. It can be many things. It can mean that maybe our heart isn't in it. It could mean we don't feel like it is priority for us. Maybe it's not something that moves you, fills your heart, drives you. Often we find things we aren't invested in are simply things that we aren't passionate about. You can't fake it. You can't force yourself to love something, because the minute it gets hard you will realize you don't. You hear so often that if it matters you will find a way. You will rise to the occasion and you will push through whatever is holding you back. Think about how many times you did just that. Think of those moments and how you felt. How you were determined and focused on finishing what you started. How you were excited to see what came next and could care less what was in the way. You weren't going to let anything stop you. It's those things you don't need to fully understand. Deep down you know it matters, and you trust that you will be able, and willing, to figure it out as you go. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you allow yourself to focus on the things that move you. The things that bring you joy, passion, and matter. You know what they are. You just need to let yourself realize it.
