Daily BITUB- “God is Great- All the time”

I am understanding more and more what it means to trust in God's timing not our own. It can be frustrating and things don't always pan out as we planned. We wish things were a certain way sometimes, but there are reasons for everything. We may not see it, want it, or even accept it in that moment, but one day it will make sense. God will speed us up when necessary. He will slow us down when we can't do it ourselves. He helps us reflect, appreciate, and pause to see what's around us. He gives us blessings we sometimes don't understand. Those blessings in disguise we sometimes argue we want, until the moment we realized instead He gave us what we needed. He closes doors and opens others. He places people in our path so that we may learn, grow, give, get, experience. He helps us walk the narrow paths, travels with us into the unknown, reminds us of the familiar, and carries us in faith when we feel we can't go at it on our own. Yes, we forget that sometimes. We take it for granted other times. We make promises in moments we need Him, and forget to give thanks when all is well. Yet, He is there. We must remember that He never waivers in His love for us, and in that nor should we. "Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" (Psalm 106:1)

Daily BITUB- “As long as you notice.”

Who cares if they don't notice? You are doing things right to be better. You are trying to eat better. You stopped drinking so much. You are spending more time with your family. You are reading more to better understand the power of self development. You are studying your craft. You are visiting family. You are changing your priorities to match what matters most to you. You are doing your best to be a better friend. You are putting in the hours at work because you want to lead by example and serve others. You are sharing your story with those that need to hear it. You are giving all you can. You are focusing on the big picture by paying attention to the small details. You are taking the walks you said you would to reflect. You are taking your experiences and using them to build bridges for others and to ensure you grow from those moments. You are giving tough love where you need to give it, and paying attention to those that care enough to do the same for you. You are laughing more. You are crying more. You are doing your best to not overlook the beauty in a sunrise and the satisfaction of making it to another sunset. Don't get so wrapped up in hoping others see you. You are doing it for you. You are doing it because it's right. You are doing it for those you love and live for. Who cares if they don't notice. As long as you do. Keep doing it.

If nobody tells you today… I will. It matters.

Daily BITUB- “Happiness and Love”

What is your heart telling you?

How often do we suppress that in fear people won't understand, support or allow us to feel what we feel? We spend so much time trying to make everyone happy we forget that happiness can't exist in a place where honesty isn't part of the foundation. Those that matter most to us often find happiness within the same place we do. In knowing the other has found their happiness. You can't do that if you don't share what truly makes you happy. Trust your heart, be open to the possibilities of experiencing life and allowing those you live for to share it with you. Express your feelings, shout from the rooftops, profess your faith, follow your dreams and do it with all of you all the time. God's beautiful gift of life is all a part of the things we love, in the places we cherish, within the blessings in our lives and in the unbelievable moments we allow our heart to experience, and to share with those we love the most.

Daily BITUB- “Have Faith”

"Have Faith"

I sat with someone yesterday who said they were challenged to go beyond the things they didn't know. They simply believed it wasn't something they could handle. They felt like the uncertainty of the unknown was scary. Well, of course it is. I've met people who said if they had a choice they would go back to a mundane, unproductive, unsatisfying life because they knew what to expect rather than get out of their comfort zone. That feeling of stability can far outweigh the challenges of pushing yourself, and makes us shy away from the possibilities of what could be. What we overlook in those moments is our faith. It is that simple. You already have what you need to face tomorrow. Yes, you may need to study, work harder, push beyond limitations, make some life changes, move away from the easy road and challenge yourself to take that road less traveled. The uncharted territory of what we don't know is where our faith lights the way. It's God's plan for us we must focus on, and know that wherever we are headed He is already there. You got this. "If you lose faith, you lose all." (Eleanor Roosevelt)

Daily BITUB- “In an Instant”

Life can change in an instant. An instant. It's so important to realize what that really means. That our ability to enhance one another's lives through good deeds, kindness, appreciation shouldn't be something we strive for every now and then. Telling those we love that we do shouldn't be an afterthought. Getting after and hustling after your dreams and goals shouldn't be something you put off until tomorrow. Start sharing your joy. Start sharing your thoughts, your experiences, your talents. Start paying attention to what others bring to the table. Listen to others share their experiences. Give your undivided attention to your kids and your person every chance you get. Take the vacation and unplug. Stay up late and watch the movie. Get up early and read, meditate, workout, pray. Visit your friends and family. Stop holding grudges. Stop worrying what others think of you. Laugh out loud. Play outside. Let yourself love someone unconditionally and let them love you back. Tell God you need Him. Do all the things that you are putting off. Do them now. Don't waste the opportunity. Life can change in an instant.

Daily BITUB- “Forgiveness”

Have you done something you aren't proud of? Have you been unkind? Maybe you said something to someone you wish you wouldn't have. Maybe you talked behind someone's back. Have choices you've made hurt others? Those things are heavy. Heavy on our hearts and minds, and must be righted. I read once we can't be ok with God, or ourselves, unless we are right with others. I know it isn't always easy to take the higher road or be the bigger person, but when we are wrong we must admit it. We must ask for forgiveness or it will pull us down and show up when we least expect it. Life is too short for grudges, to live with hurt, to not forgive, to not offer a hand of peace, to not say "I'm sorry". Don't lose precious time with those in your life that matter because you are to proud to apologize. Sit down and work it out. Say the the things you need to say before you can't. Today is as good day as any.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you know God has already forgiven you. He has forgiven others. He died so that we may live. Lay down the burdens, give thanks for the blessings to forgive and be forgiven. Continue to ask in His name, "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us." (Matthew 6:12)

Daily BITUB- “I Wish”

"When pride comes then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom." Proverbs 11:2

Everyone at some point goes through that state of wishing.

I wish I had more money.

I wish I had a bigger house.

I wish I had a better car.

I wish I had a better job.

Thing is as we allow that type of wish list to grow we easily transform a good life into a world of self pity and a relentless pursuit of never being satisfied. We become full of a false sense of success in that our "things" are better than someone else's, and then we start to lack discernment when we come across someone who has better "things" than us. We stop working to be better people, making better use of our time, enlightening ourselves through the non material beauty of good books, nature, quality moments with those that matter most, and time with God. We start to get so cloudy we miss out on the small moments God places in our lives. We have a pride in us that constantly wishes to be prouder, but we just can't figure out why we can't get there… Until we do. Until we sit back and look at the real gifts, achievements, people, memories, and blessings that we have acquired throughout our journey. We get to appreciate it every day, and hopefully feel the absolute joy in having the opportunity to not have to wish for moments we can create right here and now.

Daily BITUB- “Listen to Yourself”

Listen to yourself. Your body tells you when it needs rest and when things aren't right. Your mind tells you when to think and how to assess situations. Your heart tells you what you feel and what really matters to you. Nobody knows you quite like you do. You can fight it, but it catches up. We all have things that need to get done, but it's also ok to let yourself catch a breath. When we are so worn down physically, mentally, and spiritually we stop doing what we know to do. We start cutting corners. We stop making smart decisions. We are short with people. We stop paying attention to our attitude, our words, our thoughts and things can begin to snowball. We create a viscous cycle of wrong turns and find ourselves creating our own obstacles. Just stop. Take the moment to understand the situation. See it for what it is, realize where you are, and visualize where you want to go. You don't have to be there tomorrow, but commit to the direction you want and head that way. Every step is that much closer and understanding you are in control of what resides in your body, your mind, and your heart gives you the control over what gets to happen next.

Just listen to yourself.

Daily BITUB- “Shine”

"Shine"

It's such a big school. Such a big company. Such a big world. Yes it is and so it's easy to feel like your individual contribution is not significant. Easy to feel that you can't, won't and shouldn't make a difference, and so some make the determination not to even try. Thing is there is only one you. You are one unique person. Your spirit, your talents and your beauty are gifts from God. The blessings that exist within you can only be shared if you choose to share them. Every day the opportunity is there to make a difference, to be the difference, to influence the outcome of the day for you and for others. Maybe you don't see the impact of your smile to someone, your encouragement, your example of determination reaching for your goals, but maybe, just maybe, you touch one life. You matter to that one person. Something you can't do if you don't allow your light to shine. So don't think the world is too big to make an impact. Chances are you already have made one today and someone, somewhere is thankful and blessed that you did.

Daily BITUB- “The Smallest Blessings”

"Even your biggest blessings started somewhere."- DC 2015

People often ask me what BITUB means as I actually have it on my license plate. I tell them it stands for Believe in the Unbelievable. That often strikes up a conversation that probably has them thinking that they didn't really want to know all that, but I get fired up to share how a small blessing of someone asking me to speak has become what it is for me. When I started BITUB, over 14 years ago, my goal was to just share some thoughts. Today it has evolved into an opportunity to share stories, feelings, thoughts, views, and most importantly my faith. I've met many people virtually across the world, made new friends in the many places I've lived, and been inspired by the outpouring of appreciation for the daily posts and the speaking engagements. As the journey continues I am grateful that writing and sharing has pulled me through some tough times, emotional roller coasters, and self doubt. As I say often, and was the first Daily BITUB, there is no shortage doubt, it is the abundance of belief that often gets overlooked. I'm not sure where BITUB will take me next, but I give thanks to God for going with me every step of the way.

Believe in the Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you notice the small blessings in your life. Everyone of them is a gift and no matter, big or small, God intends for us to have them so that we may know "With God's help (we) will do mighty things." (Psalm 60:12)

Daily BITUB- “Success”

My definition of success has changed over the years. I've come to realize that isn't uncommon as you grow older, have experiences, and realign priorities. It makes sense your view changes. Jentezen Franklin in his book "Acres of Diamonds" makes reference to this change. He talks about our personal views on success. What he sees as success won't necessarily align with what we think. So, as I study and read I find these thought provoking moments worthwhile to reflect upon. After all my definition of success in my 20's was monetary, having "stuff", and climbing the corporate ladder. My 30's it was pretty similar, but more in the idea I wanted to provide for my family and saw that ladder as a means to do that. Now in my upper 40's I see success a bit differently. The value of sharing moments with my young kids while I can is something I'm blessed to figure out before it was too late. The talks with my boy on the course brings me joy, and recreates those same moments I shared/share with my Pop. Watching my daughter grow and having moments with her that remind her I'm here no matter what is priceless to me. My wife helping me understand the value of taking the days off we have, doing the trips, making the time has helped me to better appreciate why I do the things I do and how living life is just as important as making a living. In Jentezen's book he goes on to say, "Often we think the world's definition of success is what really matters. What's important , however, is to show the world the touch of God on our lives and our families." I've realized that the more I understand how God is at work in my life through the moments I'm experiencing as a father, a husband, a friend, a brother, and a servant of God the more I'm realizing just how successful I really am.

Daily BITUB- “Measurable Moments”

Sometimes things happen. They happen and we must adjust to those things. We must make those adjustments with the intent that we want to learn from our experience and use it to become wiser in the next leg of our journey. We mustn't avoid it, dismiss it, pretend it didn't happen. It did, and facing it head on ensures it is dealt with and we can move forward. Measure your experiences and moments. Every day is measurable… In terms of what we learned, what we shared, who we were kind to, who we helped, who helped us, how we loved, how we prayed, how we lived. You don't get the day back so live it. Live it intentionally. Don't deny yourself the chance to do more and be more afraid some thing else may happen. Don't miss moments, don't shy away from the challenges, don't give in to the easy, don't be afraid of the road less traveled. That's where your wildest dreams live and your passions are at their greatest. Envision the life you want to lead and go out and create it. Pray for strength, for courage, for guidance, and for God to continue to "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12) That we are able to experience those unbelievable moments that simply become unmeasurable.

Daily BITUB- "Good Shots"

Where we put our energy is where we thrive. If we focus on the negative then more than likely the negative will surround us. Focus on the good things, the opportunity to take your shots at creating the life you want, the beauty in life around you, and that positive will resonate beyond you. Think about the things that bring you joy, that fire you up, that you live for and duplicate that. Put more of that in your path, in your life, in your vision and dreams. Give yourself a chance and take your best shots.

Daily BITUB- “Your Place”

Where is your place? The one you go to unplug, shut out the world around you, and just reflect. I'm asking because I was thinking about that myself. Yesterday as work was a whirlwind and I had a lot on my mind I thought I just needed to take a walk. I ended up sitting in my car (with the AC) for a few minutes in silence. I closed my eyes, said a prayer, and asked for guidance. It helped me gather myself, get my footing, and recharge. It's important to have that place to quietly pause. Whether it's in meditation, a nap, prayer… You need it. A place you can just be and appreciate some uninterrupted time with your thoughts. Don't underestimate the power of those few minutes, and the importance of taking care of yourself.

Find your place.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find your place and cherish quiet time with God. He listens. As is written, "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29: 12-13)
