Daily BITUB- “Projects and Irons”

I finally sat down and organized all my projects. I have several conceptualized, some I've started, and some in full motion. Thing is in doing this I realized I had a lot going on… A lot of irons in the fire. What I also realized was that all these irons in the fire I had put there. I had somehow convinced myself I didn't and couldn't take some out. That's absolutely not true. We must be better at using our time to fit in the things we deem important. Put the irons in the fire you want in there. You want to be healthier? Put in time to exercise and eat better. You want to be rested? Put sleep in there. You want to read more, travel more, learn more? Then put those in there. I kept convincing myself I didn't have the time to do some things. I was allowing myself to make excuses by putting unnecessary pressure and projects ahead of things I really wanted to do. So instead of continuing to pile up things that aren't priority I decided to remove them. I consolidated where I could, I evaluated what I needed to, kept the things I needed to keep, threw out the rest and added others I've been pushing to the back burner. Having many irons in the fire isn't a bad thing if you are controlling what's there. Sometimes you can't avoid one or two that slip in, but remember you can take them out anytime you want. Stop making excuses for why you aren't fulfilling dreams and reaching goals. Move them to the top of your list, put them on that fire and get fired up. Things matter only in as much as we allow them to matter. Make your passions your priority. Life's simply to short not to.

Daily BITUB- “Balancing Act”

This weekend my family and I went to see Troupe Vertigo perform. Accompanied by The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is was spell binding. We watched in awe at people using their talents to entertain and showing what you can do when you put your mind to it. There was one performance where a lady balanced herself on three small steps lifted from the ground. It seemed effortless; though we knew it was far from it. Often the things I see are what inspires me to write. I relate it to what's in my head, what people say to me, what emails I get and ask for my thoughts. Recently I've received several inquiries about how we balance our lives: work and life balance, happy and sad balance, health, joy, pain. We are all going through something. Guilt because we are happy. Hurt because we aren't. Fear we will fail this test God has for us. Fear we are missing something right in front of us because we are too busy worried about others instead of being focused on what matters. We think we might say the wrong thing or afraid we might not say enough. It's a rollercoaster sometimes… Ups and downs, twists and turns. We put so much on ourselves. I once wrote that the more we put on our shoulders the more balanced we become. I've come to find out that it's true. We must find a balance between what we need, what we want, and what God intends for us to have. We mustn't question it. We mustn't fight it. We must look for silver linings, truths, what carries us, what inspires us, what drives us, and why it does. We must realize how much we are capable of doing. It doesn't even have to look effortless, because we know it's not. We have the ability to take control of our moments and we can be the balancing act in our own show that is life. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find the balance you need. That you realize you control it. You can make the choices you need to take care of yourself. You simply just need to make them.

Daily BITUB- “Detours”

The definition of a detour is a long or roundabout route that is taken to avoid something or to visit something along the way. When I read that it can be  positive or negative. I've taken a lot of detours in my life. Many were not intentional. Many were not just to visit something along the way. In the moment those detours felt extremely negative. I may never know why God put that altered path in front of me. Why doors were closed, roadblocks were in my path, obstacles prevented me from staying the course. I was frustrated many times. Even as I questioned some of the hardest moments that came from those detours I have come to embrace that what was on the detour was nothing compared to if I hadn't taken it. As I look back every detour has been necessary. There was a purpose. There was a positive outcome that I had to simply allow myself to see. We can't sit back and think about "what if". We have to be grateful to "what now". What lies ahead of us is what we impact. The move we make today matters and will influence the moves we have yet to make. If on that detour you are unsure of what comes next calm yourself and pray. As is written… "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you." (Psalm 32:8) So, don't be afraid. Go ahead and take the detour. Give thanks for the journey, and know you are never on any path God isn't with you. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you know that no one willing to be found is lost. God knows where you have been, where you are, and where you are going. Trust in that. Trust in Him. Keep the faith.

Every moment of every day we are blessed to experience God's blessings. We make time for the things that matter and give thanks for it every step of the way. With those thoughts I say "Thank You God" for giving us a blessed evening yesterday playing with my boy and my brothers. We got 2nd after losing playoff, but what a great debut for Dayne at Sundowners. Looking forward to many more years of playing along side my baby boy. I love you son!

Daily BITUB- “Back to Basics”

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13)

I tell you no matter what troubles you, no matter how difficult the trial, no matter how weary you are from the fight, going back to what you know is key. Get back to the fundamentals of what fires you up, inspires you, gets you up in the morning.  Go back to that foundation you built on experiences, faith, and a trust in God. Remember what you believe to be important. Remember what drives your heart to feel and your mind to think. Put your faith to the test and know that God has a plan for you. Let that give you the hope you need and a reassurance you will pull through and move forward to whatever comes next. As we go back to basics we are reminded of what we have faced before and our ability to persevere. You haven't given up through all you've already faced. Why start now? Let yourself pull from those things you know will give you the strength and courage to move upward and onward. It's necessary to know it's ok to step back in order to refine, reevaluate, and recharge. Back to basics. Back to those people and things you live for: Your person, spouse, kids, family, dreams, goals. Back to who you are and know you can be. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you are able to find how strong your foundation of faith can be. That you stand strong upon it and build up from there towards all you are and all you hope to be.

Daily BITUB- “Living Dreams”

We often imagine how life should be. You know the one of our dreams. That one we wonder if we will ever reach. The one we wonder even if we can. It's that place we stare into space midday and think of. It's our happy escape. It's where we are the exact person we know we should be. It's where everyone that matters to us exists. As I started to reflect on that I thought about how often we forget our current place. How often we go through life seeing another life as better. We are hard on ourselves and place limitations on our potential. We challenge our strength and question our ability to reach those destinations and to live those dreams. We allow setbacks to create roadblocks and we give ourselves a way out of trying. We all at some point will go through trials where it's easier to doubt than to try. That is of course until we slow down, take a breath, look around us at all God's blessings and realize that we are often standing right in the middle of a dream we had long ago. One we might have thought was impossible too, but here we are living it. Thing is nothing will ever be out of reach. So don't ever stop reaching. In the meantime don't overlook this dream you are living in right now. Make each and every moment matter.

Daily BITUB- “Bomb”

"Sometimes you're gonna bomb. So, you just might have to blow yourself up with no one's help." -Eminem/ Book of Rhymes

I know a lot of people don't like Eminem for things he says, or just the type of music he puts out. However, his journey, documented drug addictions and fight for recovery tell several sides of him. His lyrics tell so many stories. Many people have dissected this song as it has bar after bar of mixed words and meanings. The above line resonated with me. I think often how we refuse to accept our mistakes. We simply have no desire to look at ourselves and things we have to be better at. We won't accept shortcomings, and we are quick to go on the defensive. We won't "blow ourselves up".  We won't see the things we must. Also in that song he says, "Joy and pain, fortune, fame, shame, choice I made." Accepting that we play the main character in our life, and that our choices shaped it, creates accountability. Through that accountability we can intentionally empower ourselves to make the next choices to do and be better. To push ourselves. To grow. To develop through experiences by unmasking them completely. We must accept our role in the situation and realize as much as we put ourselves here we have the power to move ourselves from here. It's all a choice. It's all our ability to create the realization that we are the influence that matters in our lives. That through faith, hope, love and prayer we can recover from any "bomb" and simply be better for it.

Daily BITUB- “Links”

I was playing with my key chain yesterday while on a call and I broke a link. It broke in the middle. So, now I had two separate pieces with each having one link. Not a chain anymore. It reminded me of a show I saw once that talked of how each instrument in a orchestra plays a part to create the sound for a symphony. That really put me in a frame of mind as I was putting together strategies at work to tackle a few things we needed to get done. How every person played a role, and each one of them would be needed to complete the task. Each a link in the chain. Funny sometimes how we forget just how much we need each other. Sometimes we simply refuse to ask for help, or reach out to a friend when we are in need. Guess what? We all need someone, and chances are someone at some point will need us. We all need to comfort and to be comforted. We all need someone to give us hope, and sometimes we are theirs. A light in the tunnel for some and for others they are our light. Love and be loved. Give when you can, and ask for a hand if you need it. Be a link that creates a chain of good, of beauty, of togetherness. After all, we are all blessed to be an instrument in God's orchestra where together we can create beautiful music.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you realize how instrumental you are to so many. You may be the link, the instrument, the melody, the glue. We all matter. To some we are a part and to others we are the whole. I pray that you don't forget that.

Daily BITUB- “Nightbirde”

Yesterday I heard a young lady named Nightbirde sing on AGT. She has cancer and still does. Her song was amazing and her outlook on life was as well. At one point she said that you simply can't wait until things are not hard to decide to be happy. I thought… Wow. We are so good at making our hard harder. We use it sometimes as a crutch, and miss out on the pockets of easy we are given. We give all our attention to asking God for a break so that we don't abandon the goal, the path, our dreams., but then we overlook it when we get that break. There really are no shortcuts to the things we know we must do to feel like we accomplished what we set out to do. There are going to be hard moments in every one of our days, but don't use the breathers, the guidance, the help and support to spend more energy on the negative. Instead take your moment and use it. Use it to recharge. Use it to get a footing. Use it to thank God for this opportunity to remember there is good… A lot of it. I think about what one of our priests said to me when I was in 8th grade at St. Mary's. He said that the education life will give us will often depend on how many tough courses we are willing to sign up for, and then stick out. These courses aren't pass or fail. They are pass or take God's hand and try it this time with Him as your teacher and your guide. Pay attention to what He provides. (Thank you Father Lonnie) Tough courses, trials, hard times… If you get a chance listen to Nightbirde. Listen and don't wait until there are no hard times to be happy.

Daily BITUB- “Options”

Whatever you are facing know you have options. Though, what people sometimes don't realize is the anxiety you feel in trying to determine which option to take. It's a fear in the pit of your stomach that turns every one of those options bad in your head. Guess what? You aren't alone. It's not easy. It's ok to not be ok. I have been blessed to speak to many groups over the years on servant leadership, on believing in who you are, on faith. I have listened to others speak. I study leaders. I am here to tell you there is no silver bullet in this. Everyone's journey is different. Everyone's triggers are different. Everyone's way to settle themselves is different. It takes time. It takes encouragement from others. It takes a support system. It takes prayer, faith, and hope. It takes getting through the hard days, and doing all you can to see that there is always light. Even the smallest light is still light. It takes trusting that others are fighting with and for you.  Even when you feel you can't. You do have options. Today my prayer for you is that you find courage, strength, and light, and feel confident enough to trust in yourself to take one that helps you see just how beautiful you and life can be.

Daily BITUB- “1000 Steps”

I posted this 2 years ago. It popped up in my memories and I thought it was perfect for today. I'm loving this journey. 47 years young today and blessed by the abundance of love and support I have around me. Without it I would not be here, and not a day goes by I take that for granted. 

"A journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step." -Chinese Proverb 

This past week I talked a lot about transformation. Sometimes we think about where we want to go, but it seems like it is so far away. We think about all the adversity we may face, the obstacles that are inevitable, and the feeling that we won't be able to finish what we started. I think those feelings are a natural part of growth. Understanding it won't be easy sets us up for the fight we know we are going to have. It allows us to ground ourselves in the reality that tough times are ahead. Then it provides us something we often overlook. The realization we are not alone. That we don't have to face it by ourselves. That the transformation that's coming isn't just for us, but for all those who have been, and will be, on the journey with us. We learn who we are, we learn what others believe we can be, and we learn that we are capable of being it. We will pray, we will hurt, we will fear, we will pray some more and we will find strength, joy, and faith. We will see that God provides what we need exactly when we need it. Even when we don't see it, like it, or get it. He is still giving. He is still present. He shows us the way, and through Him we realize it's the only way. Transformation begins within. It begins with a vision about what it will mean to reach that 1000 mile, and the courage to take that first single step.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is you find it within to see the possibility, to find the courage, to have faith that whatever transformation is in store for you, you believe that you can do it and that in the end it will be worth every step of the way.

Daily BITUB- “Spiritual Journey”

I love having discussions about God and His influence in my life. Love discussing my spiritual journey, and how I have come to appreciate what it means to have faith over the years. What I've learned is everyone has their own story, path, and relationship with God. I could never question or judge anyone. I don't know what they have been through. I would never push my story on them, or tell them how they need to be with God. I am no judge, and know that as Matthew 7:1 says, "Judge not, that you be not judged." We are all on whatever spiritual journey we must be on. We are all in our place, and my faith tells me I am exactly in that place God intends for me to be. Even as people attempt to derail, to push buttons, to have you move away from your path we have only to trust in God and stand firm on our foundation of faith. No matter how many times people want to cast shadows, to use you as a way to express their doubt, we must stay the course. We must continue to share our journey as it may help others. We must let our light shine through Him. "This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all." (John 1:5) 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and may you feel the abundance of God's Grace at work in your life. In all things past and in those yet to come.

There is so much around us... Negativity, doubt, fear, hate, hurt. We will choose our path, we will choose our reactions, our truths, our attitude. Influence the outcome. Breathe, steady yourself on your foundation of faith, and choose to be the calm in the storm.

Daily BITUB- “Weep and Laugh”

"There is a time to weep and a time to laugh." (Ecclesiastes 3:4). You know what? It's really ok to do both. I talked to someone at length yesterday who told me they felt like they couldn't feel openly. Afraid to share emotions and feelings for fear that it would make others think bad of them. I get it. It's easy to get wrapped up in what others think of you, but holding back what is in you is not going to change what people think. Even if it did you wouldn't be you, and that is not sustainable. Honestly, why are you concerned about those people? Stop putting energy into negativity. Your energy deserves to be elsewhere. Find, seek, and create real relationships with real people. Be intentional about it. People who understand vulnerability. People who don't judge, but embrace the beauty in intimacy. People who need others they can share with too. Not everyone needs to be a part of our lives, and as I've said often don't worry so much about the people you have to live with... Give those emotions, the love, the energy to the people you live for. Then weep when you need to, and laugh when you want to.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you treasure your real relationships. The ones that reciprocate and enrich your life. The ones that you know no matter what will always be there. The ones you know, together in Christ, will be what they should be.

Daily BITUB- “God is There”

"God is There"

Many years I pushed away from God and my faith. It felt like an obligation rather than something that I wanted to do. It was like when someone tells you to do something, and you want to, but refuse just to be difficult. That was me, being difficult in accepting my relationship with God. So, for years I chose to not go to church. I chose not to talk with God. I chose to neglect my spiritual well being. Then, I decided that I needed to come back to God. For many reasons. It wasn't an obligation anymore, but inside it felt like a need. A need to fill my heart, my soul, my mind with Him. Little did I know that would translate into wanting to share my experiences with others. To let them know that we all waiver at some point. Even the strongest in faith lose it sometimes. Yet, when ready, God is right where you left Him. The only difference is you get to be a part of the relationship this time, because He never stopped loving you. You get to talk with a grateful and clearer heart. You see the path you came from with renewed eyes, and realize how many blessings you overlooked. You look forward and know even beyond what you can see you will be ok, you will be comforted, He will be with you every step of the way. For those that may feel you can't come back to God and have questions... How do I come back to Him after years of ignoring His love? How do I find Him as lost as I've been? As I sit here reading and finding my strength and my thoughts through His word I wanted to share Psalm 139:7-10. As it answers better than I ever could. "Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in depths, You are there. If I rose on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast." The answer is simple... He is everywhere you are. You just choose to be there with Him and to be found. He has never left your side, and never will.

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you know God loves you... Recklessly, unconditionally, fully. Allow yourself to be in that spiritual relationship with Him. It is a strength like no other.

Daily BITUB- “What Started It”

Don't forget what started it all. The small things that caught your attention, and made you want to reach higher. The people that sparked that inner fire and motivated you to get up and get going. Think about those long nights where you couldn't sleep wondering how you would reach the peak standing so far down in the valley. Then finding your way day after day. Think about the prayers you said, and how God answered them time and time again. Remember the pain of those moments and the satisfaction of overcoming them. Think of the joy you felt a long the way, and the happiness you were able to experience with others. Think of all the people that offered their hand to pull you up, and the inspirations that wouldn't let you give up. Think about the smallest blessings, and how today, right here and now... How those blessings have become the biggest parts of your life. It's easy to forget why we do what we do. The things we have preserved through. The moments that make all of it matter. So remind yourself when you must, and don't ever forget what started it all. 

Believe In The Unbelievable that is YOU and my prayer for you today is that you find comfort in your progression. That you remember all the good on your path. That you are able to give thanks for the people that hold you up, push you forward, and pull you when you need that too.
